Qantas, Cathay Pacific cancel all Hong Kong flights
The fast-approaching ‘super typhoon’ puts a temporary halt to all flights into and out of HKG.
Qantas has suspended all flights between Australia and Hong Kong from today, Tuesday September 23, through to Thursday September 25, as the Asian metropolis prepares for the full brunt of super typhoon Ragasa.
Cathay Pacific has likewise scrubbed its schedule across those days, with flights winding down from this morning and some aircraft being relocated out of the city to avoid the potential for damage from flying debris.
“We will have sufficient resources in place to resume flight operations once the storm passes,” says the airline, adding that it expects “a staggered and gradual resumption to our schedule throughout Thursday into Friday.”
Hong Kong International Airport will halt all flights to and from Hong Kong from 6pm local time on September 23, with fights are not expected to resume until 6am on September 25.
Qantas and Cathay Pacific say they will contact passengers impacted by the cancellations.
Cathay Pacific, with over 500 flights likely to be cancelled, says it has also waived rebooking and rerouting fees, and urges passengers “to use Cathay Pacific's Manage Booking portal and ensure their contact information is accurate to receive the latest flight information.”
“Due to the high volume of inquiries currently being processed by our customer service team, we advise customers not to call us at this time.”
“We will notify affected customers of the latest flight information via SMS, email and the Cathay Pacific app.”
