Qantas shuts down regional lounges for refresh

Qantas kicks off a rolling refresh of seven regional lounges this week, with upgrades ranging from new seating to USB-C and wireless charging points.

The move caps a wave of lounge openings at Adelaide and Auckland, while Sydney’s international business class lounge is finally set to become worthy of its flagship status.

Each of the regional lounges will receive a refreshed interior featuring what the airline describes as “a distinct, new colour palette inspired by the region’s natural landscapes” complemented by “refined finishes such as new flooring and updated surfaces.”

The Rockhampton Qantas Club will reopen in late February.

The Rockhampton Qantas Club – which opened a little over three years ago – is first up, closing from February 5 to 18.

Here’s the batting order for the other six Qantas regional lounges.

  • Gladstone will be closed from February 8 to 26
  • Kalgoorlie will be closed from February 8 to 14
  • Tamworth will be closed from February 12 to 21
  • Coffs Harbour will be closed from February 14 to 24
  • Mackay will be closed from February 15 to March 9
  • Karratha will be closed from March 8 to 19

Qantas has not yet advised what make-good measures, if any, will be offered to Qantas Club members and Qantas frequent flyers during these closures.

“We know how much our frequent flyers value our regional lounges, whether it’s to grab a drink and a snack, or as a quiet place to get some work done,” says QantasLink CEO Mark Dal Pra.

“We apologise for the inconvenience while we renovate, but we’re confident the finished product will make it worthwhile.”

“These investments are part of our commitment to ensuring customers have a great experience with us both on the ground and in the air.”

Rockhampton Airport has an empty lounge space next to the Qantas lounge.  Fingers crossed they use this during the renovation period.   My single, annual trip to Rockhampton is in the middle of the scheduled February renovation period :(

Just to share, during this reno-update, maybe QF could consider a lounge in Albury given the numbers passing through here each year. Am feeling a bit short changed as a club member.
