Qantas upgrades Adelaide airport lounge dining
Tuck in to a better pre-flight meal at Australia’s newest Qantas lounge.
Mid-May saw the debut of the new Qantas Adelaide Business Lounge, where business class passengers and Platinum-grade frequent flyers can relax, work or freshen up before their flight.
That pre-flight proposition has now gone up by several notches with the opening of the Market Kitchen – the lounge’s signature dining element, along the same lines as Melbourne’s Asian-themed Spice Bar and Perth’s iconic Pizza Bar.
Drawing its inspiration from the Adelaide Central Markets, and showcasing South Australian food and wine, the Market Kitchen is open daily from 11am to 7pm.
Locals will note the live cooking station proudly promoting a very Adelaide dish: the classic “pie floater”, which sees a meat pie sitting in a thick pea soup.
Pasta from Adelaide institution Lucia’s also feature on the menu rotation, including a delicious South Australian prawn pasta.
There’s also the conventional buffet spread, of course.
The Qantas Adelaide Business Lounge has room for almost 200 travellers, and the airline says some 80% of seats will have handy access to tech-charging AC, USB and wireless outlets.
In common with the neighbouring Qantas Club, the design of the Business Lounge adopts a local palette of colours and materials to give the lounge not only a sense of place but its own unique identity – a marked change from decades ago, when all lounges had to share the same design in the name of brand consistency.
In this instance, it “aims to capture the essence of South Australia, taking inspiration from three iconic locations; the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, Adelaide Central Markets and Kangaroo Island’s Flinders Chase National Park.”
Qantas has also announced the return of international flights from Adelaide, beginning with a seasonal service to Auckland from October 2025, while the city also remains a front-runner for Adelaide-Singapore on the new Airbus A321XLR jets.

Looks amazing, well done Qantas. Now for much needed upgrades to Sydney! The Perth lounge is starting to look tired too.

Looks fantastic, looking forward to visiting on my monthly ADL trip, no doubt this will also help reduce crowding in the Qantas Club too.

Roll on SIN-ADL direct on QF! I travel from the Canadian east coast to SYD on AC and on to ADL om QF, but Sydney (in J) often costs several thousand dollars more than AC's J to SIN. If the QF price for SIN-ADL is right, it just might be a cheaper option and allow me a stopover in Singapore as well.
Meanwhile, looking forward to the ADL Business lounge in a couple of weeks; the Club lounge is already pretty good.

Will QF travellers to Auckland be able to use this lounge when the Adl-Akl route begins, or is it just for domestic travellers?

You'd still be entitled to use this lounge before flying to Auckland, you'd just have to leave the lounge a little earlier to go through security & immigration for international departures.

Day trip to ADL yesterday and used the Bus Lounge on arrival & departure. My verdict?
10/10. I don't know how you could whinge about this lounge. It's the best domestic lounge in Australia (outside of CL). The staff are, notably, cheery and really happy to be there. I enjoyed that. The showers are spot on, toilets really well designed and laid out. The lounge itself is spacious and welcoming. No complaints from me. Bravo, QF.

Agreed. I just missed the Market Kitchen by a few days recently, but it's an outstandingly good lounge. There were even some roving staff coming to your seat to offer sparking water. The only other domestic lounge that comes close is the Club lounge in CBR (haven't tried the business lounge there).

Recent visit , agree the lounge itself is excellent. The prawn pasta however was penne pasta, maybe 15 pieces, mixed with a jar of pasta sauce, and 4 small prawns. Look , it is food and there were other buffet options, and no pie floater, but this pasta dish was just very basic. The buffet breakfast the next day however was as good as any lounge I’ve ever been to.

Does anyone know if you can use this lounge before the Qatar Airways departure if you’re flying in Business rather than heading to the VA lounge?
