Hong Kong Airport will soon have a second Star Alliance lounge, with United Airlines set to reopen its United Club in the coming months.

The lounge has been shuttered since February 2020, at the outset of the pandemic, despite United Airlines now offering twice-daily flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Earlier this year United said the lounge would unlock its doors sometime in 2025, and now a document shared by the Hong Kong government detailing the city’s airport lounges has revealed the United Club will “reopen in June/July 2025.”

However, don’t expect anything near the standard of United's US-based Polaris lounges.

Located near gate 60, near the first stop on the T1 'automated people mover' train, the United Club will stand alongside the Singapore Airlines lounge as options for business class passengers and Star Alliance Gold-grade frequent flyers.

And being on the upper ‘mezzanine’ level affords a great view out across the airfield and to the mountains beyond.

As detailed in our review of Hong Kong’s United Club, the space is light and bright, although the buffet fare is nothing to arrive early for, and many seats don’t have handy access to AC power outlets.

The return of the United Club pretty much resets the Hong Kong loungescape to its pre-Covid state, along with new additions such as the independent Kyra Lounge – in the same space previously used by Cathay Pacific’s The Cabin until 2018 – and, for something different, the Intervals bar perched atop the Sky Bridge to the satellite terminal.

As previously reported, Cathay Pacific has now reopened The Bridge lounge and will next week close The Wing First for an extensive year-long renovation, with The Deck being converted into a temporary first class lounge.

Any indications of the Skyteam lounge reopening? No proper skyteam option for a hub like HKG is shocking.

Not that it was a great lounge to begin with but the noodle bar was still greatly appreciated.

Used to lover the United Global First Lounge here at HKG - small, self serve champagne, a la carte Brekky/Burger - and lounge hopping with long connections on Swiss First  there, Sq First Lounge Thai First Lounge (not really worth it but was close to United lounges) and Amex Centurion Lounge
