US Global Entry interviews now available in Australia

Although the US Global Entry program is now open to all Australians, the necessary final stage of being approved for Global Entry is to attend an in-person interview with an officer from the US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) agency.

These interviews are normally available only in the USA, and most commonly on arrival at an international airport such as Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York.

However, from Monday February 23 to Friday February 27, the CBP will also hold interviews in Sydney – so that successful Global Entry applicants can immediately take advantage of faster hassle-free entry into the USA, along with TSA PreCheck access for domestic US flights.

US Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck for domestic flights.

The interviews will be held at the Hyatt Regency Sydney hotel, but are on an appointment-only basis.

And as you can imagine, those appointments are filling up fast.

At the time of writing, barely 280 interview slots remained available from Wednesday February 25 to Friday February 27.

If your Global Entry has already been conditionally approved, and all you’re waiting for is that interview, here’s how to line up a time-saving interview in Sydney.

1. Log into your account at the US Department of Homeland Security’s Trusted Traveler Programs website, and on your Dashboard, click the Schedule Interview button.

2. When asked to Choose an Appointment Location, scroll down past the lengthy list of US locations until you see the Other Countries heading – and under Australia, click the link for the Sydney, AUS Mobile Event.

3. You’ll see a pop-up box showing details such as the location address and the next available appointment; click the Choose This Location button.

4. Up next is a calendar showing which days in this week-long period have appointments remaining. Click any of those dates to see the available appointments, then click your desired timeslot.

Note that you’ll need to bring a folder of documentation to the interview, including your passport, driver's licence and proof of address (such as a copy of any utility bill).

Don’t forget a screenshot or copy of the Conditional Approval letter saved in your TTP account, as this includes the nine-digit PASSID number to be supplied at the start of your interview.

The CBP also suggests that “schedule availability can change, so we recommend checking back frequently as cancellations or reschedules may open new slots.”
