Philippine Airlines to start flights to Brisbane, Perth and Darwin

Philippine Airlines will begin flying to Brisbane, Darwin and Perth from June 1.

PAL's daily Darwin-Manila service leaves Darwin at 3pm, with the return flight out of Manila at 10.05pm.

The Brisbane-Manila and Perth-Manila flights are routed through Darwin. The Brisbane-Manila service departs Brisbane at 10.10am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; flights from Perth leave at 8.50am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The flights will run on an Airbus A320 with 12 business class recliner seats of 21" width and 36" pitch, an airline spokesman advised Australian Business Traveller.

PAL already offers four nonstop Boeing 777-300ER flights per week between Sydney and Manila and three weekly directs from Melbourne, having last year replaced 'triangular service' which saw each flight stop in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Tickets for these new Australian routes are now on sale, with PAL offering special promotional rates.

Existing services from Sydney and Melbourne are operated by Philippine Airlines’ flagship Boeing 777-300ER, flying non-stop from Sydney on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and non-stop from Melbourne on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Other additions to Philippine Airlines' route map include Kuala Lumpur, from May 1; Guangzhou from June 1; and Abu Dhabi, from October 1.

I wonder if Virgin will codeshare to Asian destinations not properly served with MI & SQ now that Phillipine Airlines have a much greater exposure to Australia., especially from Darwin.

Looking on their website, they dont seem to go to Europe ? so it makes me wonder if there is much of a market for this , although it should,nt take much to fill an A320.

All Philippine airlines, including PAL are on the no-fly list to Europe as I understand. PAL trying to getting off, Phil Gov has some work to do on regulation.

I read somewhere that PAL has indicated that it wants to join Oneworld at a later date. Though I think that was a few years ago.

I fly PAL domestic flights last year on A320 and A319. Both planes pretty new, clean and a pleasant flight.

Fares for business class are dearer than SQ.

There's two paragraph's appear to be contradictory:

"PAL's new Manila-Darwin service departs Manila every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10.05pm and arrives into Darwin at 4am the next day, with a 3pm departure from Darwin back to Manila.

The Brisbane-Manila and Perth-Manila flights are routed through Darwin. The Brisbane-Manila service departs Brisbane at 10.10am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; flights from Perth leave at 8.50am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays."

If the 3/week service from Brisbane and the 4/week service from Perth are both routed via Darwin, wouldn't that give a daily service on Darwin - Manila?

The only way I can see the article being correct (if a little misleading) would be if the service is assymetrical and the 4/week Perth to Manila flights are via Darwin as stated but the outbound Manila to Perth flights are non-stop (and not via Darwin).

You're quite right, Martin - PAL's press release treated Darwin-Manila as an individual route with flights from Manila listed as being "every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday", and didn't allow for Brisbane and Perth via Darwin. We've confirmed with PAL PR that flights go out of Darwin every day. Thanks for the pickup!

The Manila - Darwin leg is daily with alternate services to BNE/PER.

The PER - DRW - MNL route geographically works, I'm not sure about BNE - DRW - MNL though. But it is likely that this is a catalyst to direct BNE services if there is enough demand.

QF's weekly BNE-MNL may be in trouble if that happens.

I had booked flights with PAL, Perth to Manila for December 2013, my agent called today advising that the flights Perth to Manila are no longer operating, PAL is offering Qantas flights to Sydney, then PAL to Manila and return is PAL to Sydney & Virgin to Perth, both flights to and from Sydney would be red-eye :(
