The newly-expanded Qantas Club lounge in Darwin Airport is now open, with the lounge more than doubling in size and able to cater for over 350 passengers – so step inside!

Whether your aim is to work, rest or grab a bite to eat, there are seats everywhere

Power points for laptops and other gadgets are conveniently found under the silver cover on the high white tables…

… and against the wall under the black benches and near the red chairs:

You’ll find more comfy chairs over in the far corner…

… and in the lounge area:

Closer to the buffet? You guessed it – more seating…

That’s no coincidence – Qantas Domestic CEO Lyell Strambi said that the existing Darwin lounge had “been very popular but we are conscious that our customers wanted more space and seating”.

On the guest list are business class passengers, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers and other Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald members, Emirates Skywards Gold and Platinum travellers and of course, paid-up Qantas Club members.

If you’re travelling for work, there’s also a business centre with Apple iMac computers and a meeting room, new bathroom and shower facilities, wireless Internet, newspapers, magazines and Foxtel.

Children aren’t forgotten in the new lounge, with a ‘business centre’ of their very own, accompanied by a juice fridge:

We’re told that appropriate internet filtering software is installed, and there’s also plenty of space for children to step away from the screen and interact with others:

For something more adult, there are four beers on tap – James Squire One Fifty Lashes, Heineken, Hahn Super Dry and XXXX Gold – flanked by wines, soft drinks, juices, barista coffee, snacks a selection of other buffet items:

There are also dining tables and chairs close to the buffet, which lessens the guilt when you go back for more…

The opening of the new Qantas Club coincides with the Darwin Airport Terminal expansion – the overhaul of which will vastly improve the airport facilities for all travellers, including those of other airlines.

I love how they are making subtle differences whilst using some very key design elements in the new lounges.  Parquetry wood seems to be a common highlight.  As it the Kangaroo backlit on a feture wall.  I'm trying to picke the 'Darwin' component here....Singapore has 'Hawker' dinning experience, Hong Kong has the 'Char Sui BBQ Pork bar' and other chinese influences...Im wondering if the subtle fuschia in some of the chairs is meant to be tropical...if so its too subtle.  the should have found away to put in a Crocodile....or perhaps not I cant see that being very classy.

Do the fifo's have a separate area?

Ideally it would  be appropriate to heard them into a corner and just feed them vb and meat pies.

The thought of sitting next to a fluro singlet has me clutching my pearls.
