Sampling the Spring menu at the Qantas First Lounge

Sampling the Spring menu at the Qantas First Lounge

Spring is here, and for many Qantas frequent flyers that means the chance to sample some delightful new dishes at the award-winning Qantas First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne international airports as the lounge's seasonal menu ticks over from winter to spring.

If you can tear yourself away from the perennial favourites – and we're betting that the salt and pepper squid, buffalo mozzarella and club sandwich are on that list – you'll find a dozen new tempters for your table.

On the breakfast menu, which is served until the civilised hour of noon, try the buffalo milk yoghurt with vanilla berries or grilled ciabatta with ricotta, smoked salmon & chervil.

After midday the 'all-day' dining menu features a salad of duck breast, roast fennel, orange, watercress and olives (shown above); barramundi fillet with caper, lemon & anchovy butter, baby leeks & speck; and lamb cutlets with parmesan & rosemary crumbs and classic slaw.

There's also a new addition to the signature sandwiches: a fish burger with Moroccan eggplant, mayonnaise & harissa.

Some of the regulars get their own springtime tweak.

The buffalo mozzarella is now served with greens & lemon oil (as shown above) – we tried this on a recent visit to the Sydney lounge and it's delightful – while the grass-fed Black Angus minute steak swaps the winter accompaniments of mushroom & truffle butter for beetroot relish & horseradish cream.

As always, we suggest you order several smaller dishes rather than tucking into a single main course, and ask the ever-helpful staff for their suggestions on what wines might be the best match.
