• Good decision by the French to give this a go. Took a TGV from Lyon straight into CDG recently - seats were better than economy and wifi was decent. Makes no sense to fly between Paris and Lyon most of the time. Hope other countries try this out also. We really need high-speed trains between...

  • At last, Qantas is getting into the southern subcontinent. Have been waiting my whole life for this flight. Great to see local fare like on the Rome route. IndiGo is a solid local partner, since the sad demise of Jet Airways.

  • Have been doing this for some years on trips to the US. Beware many hotels charge a holding fee for packages (regardless of whether they are delivered to your room or you pick up at Concierge) - this can be as outrageous as US$10 per package.

  • Many people would love to fly direct SYD/MEL/... to BOM/BLR/MAA. Great that QF is talking about it - will believe it when it happens!

  • I'll believe it when it happens...and wonder how long they will stick with it. AA, CX, AY and many others do this routinely. Let's hope QFF get same (or better) treatment at home than we get when flying other OW carriers.

  • BA is probably going to be easiest if you are based in London. If you can somehow swing it, Finnair is the other European based OW airline worthy of consideration. Qatar may be a stretch if your trips don’t involve Asia/Africa/ME. Virgin is your other option. There are no UK-based SA airlin...

  • TechTip: eSim

    Dec 20, 2021, 09:32 PM

The eSim is in parallel with your Australian physical sim and has no effect on it. So you can choose to turn off the Aussie sim, or keep it on for calls and SMS only. Most eSim only give you data, which is pretty much all I need on leisure trips. However, I noticed that my eSim in Thailand also g...

  • TechTip: eSim

    Dec 16, 2021, 10:36 PM

Ever since I got my first eSim-capable smartphone (iPhone XR), it has been a game changer for travel without the dreaded sim card roulette. eSim is a digital sim that sits virtually alongside your physical/plastic sim card. iPhone have had the eSim functionality since the X series; Google Pixel 2...

  • Layover in Singapore (not transit)

    Dec 16, 2021, 10:14 PM

The Singapore stopover is dead for the foreseeable future. It's not worth the hassle, uncertainty and cost. Even transit through SIN is tricky with multiple (often conflicting) rules on allowed origin/destination, approved airlines and itineraries, VTL status (whatever that means now with omicron...

  • There are so many conflicting reports online about the Changi transit maze. With SQ spinning the story to make you only fly with them, not sure who to believe. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has actually managed to transit to a non-VTL country via Changi.
