Virgin Australia: double points, status credits on business class

Virgin Australia is set to sweeten the deal for travellers to sample its new business class.

All business class travel between January 26 and February 29 will earn double number of Velocity frequent flyer points as well as twice the usual number of status credits.

Virgin Australia exec Liz Savage revealed the promotion to Australian Business Traveller today as the airline’s new domestic business class made its debut.

Savage said the ‘double deal’ would apply to all Virgin Australia domestic business class tickets, including those on the Sydney-Perth A330 ‘Coast to Coast’ run – a move which will see some Velocity members quickly rack up enough status credits to hang onto their Gold or Platinum cards for anther year.

Savage said that the airline would also offer some ‘surprise and delight’ upgrades to Velocity members travelling in economy, bumping them up to business class to sample the new seats and service.

“We’re starting that today, choosing some Gold and Platinum guests to introduce them to the new products” Savage told Australian Business Traveller.

“These could be guests who have made a high-value (economy) ticket purchase or people who have been loyal customers for a long period of time.”

What a winner! Loved the new service so much. Never thought I'd see it with Virgin, but I have to hand it to Mr Borghetti and his entire crew, the experience was very very pleasant.

It was great to see the crew enjoying the service too! I have never been asked directly for feedback from cabin crew before, it took me completely by suprise when the senior flightie asked me if I had enjoyed my flight and was I satisfied with the service she provided. Then to ask me if I had any feedback for her personally was the icing.

If this is what Virgin is aiming to provide I will be making the effort to use their Business class consistantly.

Well done guys. A few things to pick up on but I'm happy to work with you on that...
