Virgin Australia is sharpening the ceremonial scissors in readiness for a ribbon-cutting at the airline's new international lounge at Brisbane Airport on September 3, 2019, almost a year later than the initial and obviously optimistic promise of November 2018.
Dubbed My Lounge and operated by UK-based No1 Lounges – which has also taken over Etihad's Sydney and Melbourne lounges, and opened those to Virgin passengers – it will be located adjacent to Gate 77, towards the end of the terminal's northern concourse.
No1 Lounges positions its My Lounge concept as a casual 'social' space, slotting in beneath the 'jetset lounging' vibe of The House, and has been "specifically designed in the style of a loft apartment" as a "relaxed contemporary environment."
Set off to one side of the 'living room' is a small games area with a foosball table.
"The traditional lounge model typically caters for business passengers: via a business class ticket or belonging to a points scheme that offers access to specific lounges," says No 1 Lounges chief operating officer John Upton, who is expected to join Virgin Australia executives at the opening.
"We’re expecting to see an interesting and diverse range of guests including families, groups of friends, solo travellers and even those travelling for business who want a quality yet perhaps more informal pre-flight experience as opposed to a traditional formal lounge experience."
Travellers can look forward to a dining area with a 'grazing menu of healthy and indulgent choices', in keeping with the casual vibe.
There's also barista-pulled coffee and a self-pour bar which No1 Lounges says will also have the fixings for a DIY cocktail.
Other standard lounge facilities will include showers and also be a small working area.
In addition to welcoming Virgin Australia's business class passengers, Velocity Platinum and Gold frequent flyers and members of the Virgin Australia Lounge program, My Lounge will also offer paid entry to any traveller on any airline, at $60 for online pre-bookings or $70 as a walk-up rate at the lounge itself.
The lounge will have a 108-seat capacity and be open daily between 6am and 2pm, and then from 3pm to 10pm.
