Resorting to a Virgin Australia flight to beat the Qantas cancellations and delays from today's union strike?
If you hold silver, gold or platinum Qantas frequent flyer status you should also take advantage of Virgin Australia's instant Velocity ‘status match’ deal to get lounge access, and much more.
Qantas loyalists can walk into the Virgin lounge in any Australian airport, flash their Qantas Frequent Flyer card and get an on-the-spot upgrade to the equivalent level of Velocity membership valid for 12 months. They’re even issued with a temporary Velocity Rewards card before the real one arrives in the mail.
If you’re in Sydney and can’t get to the airport, head to the Virgin Australia ‘pop-up store’ in Westfield Pitt Street Mall for a similar on-the-spot treatment.
Of course, you can still apply for your status match online at Virgin's website (you'll need your most recent frequent flyer monthly statement or a scanned copy of your current frequent flyer card) but there’s nothing like having that perk-laden plastic put straight into your hand.
But take our advice: move fast. Really fast. “There are a limited number of status matches on offer, so this promotion will end as soon as this number is reached” a Virgin Australia spokeswoman told Australian Business Traveller.
