Looking to go from SYD-LAX in about 5 months. Wondering the best airline for first class? I have no status with any airlines other than Qantas but it is very minimal.
It depends the AA first isn't bad but QF have a much better service. Could you connect through Hong Kong or Singapore because you can try the best of the best then. It all depends if it hs to be direct QF if through Asia I am a sucker for SQ especially on the a380!
Like you, the only flying I did as a student was when Mr Army flew me around Australia to do courses. Didn't fly Internation until the ripe age of 27, and even from then to now, only do PE or Bus very very occasionally.
If you want the best airline to travel SYD-LAX, why on earth would you consider flying SYD-HKG for 9hrs, wait at HKG for at least a couple of hours, then fly another 13hrs HKG-LAX, when QF flies SYD-LAX in less than 14hrs?
I have been a reader of AUSBT for a while now. Can we stop bullying and harrasing people. Its the same people everytime. I would not expect Bussiness people to use mummy and daddy quotes to attack someone based on thier listed occupation. This only makes oneself look arrogont and a narcissist.

Cannot agree more – why the heck one want to add 9 or so hours in air and few more on the ground?

If you have a 'student' looking to fly first class to LA, it strikes me that they may have family in HK or SIN. In that case a stopover makes sense.

SQ SYD to LAX would be 2 stops. If you want to get your money's worth, Etihad F can be a similar price to QF and you get 34 hours of being a F pax.

I would only route through Asia if doing a redemption booking, alas most of the time you have no choice these days.
