Qantas Q bag tag

Hello,

Domestically it saves having to get the paper tags - drop bag on self checkin belt, scan Q card, etc etc - your done and gone in about a minute.

I have not had any issues with them and it has generally saved me a fair bit of time at the airport (mainly during peak travel times) by being able to walk straight to the bag drop rather than having to line up to first get the baggage stickers. Beyond that, i trust it as much as I do with any of the more traditional stickers as I doubt that the individual handling the baggage will actually read the label, and is more likely just to put the bag where the scanner says they should. Make sure you write your name and number on the Tag and grab the baggage receipt and you should be fine.

When dropping you bag's I've been told by Qantas ground staff to make sure the barcode on the tag is facing 'out' to ensure the laser that scans your bag can read it.

Also you can only use one q tag on the Outside of your luggage. I'm only saying this as I tried to check a a bag that I had accidentally packed a second tag in along with my clothes. This led to me having to open my bag in front of a line of people to find and remove it before successfully check it in.

I haven't had an issue, but I'm only silver, so don't fly that much. 

The Q Tags do save you time for domestic travel. It doesn't help during check in for international flights, as paper tags are still issued, but I do still use them for those flights, as my bags (some tagged with gold and some with silver Q Tags) do seem to be off loaded a bit quicker than most other passengers (at least when returning to Australian airports), even when I have dropped back to Silver status this year, as happened on a flight back from Hong Kong last week.

My recent trip to Hong Kong (QF only) saw my Q-Tag crack. It's assumed a bag a lot denser and weightier than mine was thrown on top of my hard case... stuck between a rock and a hard place. QANTAS were quick to replace the tags for me so I scored an extra one.

I got them sent to me when they first came out, silver at the time.
Never used them and they are still in the package they came in.

I use it all the time and have no issues.  The only time i have had issues is if i have multiple domestic connection flights...  They tend to miss these for some reason, so the baggage gets delayed.  On international flights, i leave them on, as a "name tag"... but they don't serve any other purpose.  Apparently they may "mess" with the readers within the belt system, but i have had no issues to date yet...

The bar code on the tag is not linked to your FF account...and isn't used for scanning the Q bag tag.  The bag tag itself uses RFID technology, and so can be used by anyone.  Basically when you weigh your bag and drop it off at the bag tag, the scanner scans the Q Tag and identifies the tag and links it up to your destination/booking.
