The two remaining non-refurbs are required for the new Sydney to Beijing route. The A333 doesn't have the legs and the refurbished A332 doesn't have the galley space.
Qantas will start direct flights between Sydney and Beijing from January 25 2017
The daily service will run on an Airbus A330-200 aircraft, although this will be one of the two remaining members of the A330 fleet which are not being upgraded to the newest Business Suites.
Thanks for the comments guys. Interesting Beijing was mentioned because my flight of concern is Sydney-Jakarta, which was almost exclusively upgraded, but has now quite a number of old configs flying. I was hoping the upgrade be complete by December, as QF originally indicated.
i had teh misfortune to fly the old config to hawaii and back at the start of november they should be offering a substantial discount when they have a substandard offering like this

Seems that the upgrades to the remaining a330s has grounded to a halt. Anyone have any info on this?

Apparently one of the un-refurbished A330-200s is going to the Australian government. Another may be going back to its lessor.

Australian Aviation had a story a couple of weeks ago about QF considering returning the 2 remaining non-refurb A332s at the end of their leases.
