It has been 5 months since HNA bought some share of VA, but no substantial link was established between VA and the subsidiaries of HNA, like code-sharing flights, mileages earning and lounge access. Will HNA eventually kick in or the interest is only on the capital investment?

They'll clearly want to work more closely with VA. In effect what they want with VA is access to VA's Australian domestic network for HNA-group passengers from China, so they'll have to arrange codesharing etc. on that network.

Not sure when but sources from VA have informed me that they will be announcing Sydney- Hong Kong "soon". Perhaps that would be the first sign where HNA appears?

Oh no, not Sydney! It is too hard to transfer between the dom and int'l terminals. I can never find the free shuttle bus so I use the trains every time. Only Qantas does it right -- operating its very own shuttle buses and the pax are directed clearly.

I'd rather to transfer at Perth, where VA has its dom terminal sharing the same building of the int'l terminal.

VA shuttle for domestic>international: Near gate 46 (right up the furthest end of the terminal from the check in desks in the center of the round  part of the terminal) its a set of stairs heading down. You need to show an international ticket from them or their partners or get one at the desk before getting a ticket for the bus.

VA shuttle for international>domestic: As you come through customs (but before the arrivals hall)  turn left and head to the end of the building. You will see the Virgin Australia branding and signage, head through that door for a check in counter and the courtesy bus. I really like this as I have to take my luggage about 300m from carousel to the counter so I don't have to lug it around after a 14 hour flight. If in doubt as the quarantine staff.

As I've been told my directions are sometime a little odd here is the actual maps: https://www.virginaustralia.com/eu/en/experience/at-the-airport/airport-transfers/sydney-transfer-maps/

Came to ask the exact same question ... you'd think that they'd have the Velocity etc linkages in place by now.

As an update to this, Virgin and HNA have now applied to the ACCC to authorise an Alliance Agreement. Amongst other things, they are proposing Velocity members will gain recipricol benefits in the Fortune Wings Club.

Wouldn't that mean there would be a VA code on Hainan and Hong Kong Airline flights from Australia as well?
