It appears Qantas is operating the 787 between BNE/MEL on select routes from the 17th of July.

The qantas website is showing the equipment as the 787 and seat map on expert flyer also.

I’m presuming that this could be a due to a new 787 delivery and they are doing the required training on domestic routes for new crews.

I’m looking at changing a J booking I currently have to an earlier flight on the day to ride in the 787.

Does any one recall last time qantas did domestic routes with the 787 (excluding QF9/10) was it reliable or did they swap it for a330/737 regularly?

Any help is much appreciated

They have one plane delivered from the 8th of july or so and they are using it twice daily on the MEL-BNE route and then twice daily back on the BNE-MEL. they are doing this until they get another aircraft which will then start BNE-LAX-JFK so yes you will have it unless something major happens

Flying on the 787 from BNE to MEL on the 8th. Gold FF + can select premium economy seats via the Qantas website when booked in economy (well at least I was able to).

Thanks for the information :)

I will get that flight changed ASAP! Have flown a330 suites numerous times and love them so this is a real treat considering my original booking is the 737!

I thought I saw a 787 flying in Brisbane the past weekend - would've been mid/late morning...not sure if they were flying to somewhere else or if my plane spotting abilities need more work...

Did you mean a Qantas 787? Could be another airline, but it looks like all 4 QF 787s were busy between MEL-LHR-MEL and MEL-LAX-MEL over the weekend. http://theqantassource.com/qijettracker.html

VH-ZND did go over Brisbane area about 6.30 Sunday morning at 40,000 ft. If that was the one you saw it suggests your spotting ability is exceptional.

Was definitely a qantas plane - had Qantas written on the belly

Does anyone know if they are going to interchange ZNA to ZND with ZNE, so they can all operate the route?

ZNC was “on the ground” for 43hrs to Saturday afternoon before commencing MEL-PER-LHR so may well have been up to BNE and was on its way back to MEL Saturday morning (although that doesn’t show up anywhere).

Depends on the real purpose if it’s solely crew training on the new equipment then it will be rotated with the others which is probably why it’s on the Melbourne flights so it can be used for LHR and LAX.

If the purpose for the domestic routes is the company’s own testing on the equipment I would say it would be exclusive to those routes.

ZNE arrives in a few weeks. ZNF arrives in Aug. G and H arrive in Nov.
They are likely to rotate through BNE and MEL bases via LAX
