In OW, BA and AY offer LT OWE. In QF, Platinum and above status gives you OWE, but there's never been a QF LTP.

Not sure about VA partners.

didnt take long for this to turn into a Apple v Windows thread.
It's not apple vs windows when your comparing a Ferrari with a diahatsu sunny.

Daihatsu Charade or Datsun Sunny - take your pick. Both were a good car to get around cheaply when you’re short of cash.

I am 82% towards QF LTG.

I will get there in a year or two, but I am wary of the fine print that says
*program benefits may change from time to time

Call me paranoid, but fast forward to 202x, I'm LTG but will there be Platinum, Titanium and Titanium One members ahead of me, and my LTG is like todays Silver?

I clock up over 2000 VA status credits and I reckon we need to push the point somehow, maybe a online petition. I've heard VA is aware this is a issue not having a life time status.

With Velocity/VA, once you hit Platinum, why keep flying VA up to the calendar renewal start? Unless you want gold for your partner (another 500 status credits, or 1,000 for Platinum), and/or apart from the double points, there isn't that much more benefit. You're better off renewing Platinum/Gold, then jumping to the other airline. One is default the other is back up. I like options! :)

This is the real issue for VA. As Platinum flyers there isn't anything else to aim for.

Because VA permits family pooling of SC I would guess that they think this positions themselves in front of QF in that regard, so they have no need to want to match them on lifetime status. And the same goes with Qantas not offering pooling. Both are happy to have different offerrings so they that dont have to compete on price.

Whilst it would be nice for a short time if the two standalone competitors started a FF war trying to topple each other but if they did, the consumers would eventually be the losers.

Interesting thread. Consider the Air Canada/AIMIA agrement being unwound. The private agreement between Virgin Australia and Velocity Rewards (35% owned by Affinity) would need to be understood to truly answer this question. Are Status Credits owned by VA but the Reward Points owned by Rewards? If this is true, VA could choose to offer a lifetime status with no (cost) impact to rewards. If Status and points liability are part of the parternship - Affinity would need to be part of the business case for lifetime and offset against the cost to acquire points vs consumption of services - lounge, etc. for lifetime status.

I requalified platinum pretty early and then pooled to my wife to get her to platinum and then my daughter to silver. It didn't occur to me to switch over to Qantas once I re-qualified but in hindsight, I probably could have qualified platinum with both. My problem is I usually fly out of the Gold Coast and Qantas have very little to offer from here. After many unsatisfactory experiences, I won't fly Jetstar.

Do other airline FF schemes have lifetime status? Eg. Singapore, BA, Emirates, etc

Velocity wont offer lifetime status, as they know their days are numbered. VA will be broke soon, just like every other Australian airline that has come up against Qantas.

Spoken like a true key board warrior, unless you have some evidence I’d suggest it would be appropriate to edit this post or remove, this is biased and inappropriate. I didn’t see Qantas in the title so I have no idea why they are mentioned in this post.

Every time I do a VA or Velocity survey, I always mention the need for lifetime status and that I am thinking of swapping my allegiance. Perhaps everyone should state this in the surveys and they may take the hint.

The main reason is because it is easy to achieve / retain status with VA

Never say never, but I don't think we'll be seeing lifetime memberships in Velocity any time soon.

That question was already asked earlier in the thread. I know BA and AY do but it’s LT OWE, although it provides better benefits it is much harder to get than LTS and LTG on QF.
