Advice on flying Qantas to Singapore, then BA to London

I’ve seen a fare that offers J class flying Qantas to Singapore then a 1 hour stop before a BA flight to London. The price is good but I see problems. What would happen when the Q flight is late? Does the luggage transfer occur without having to intervene?

If it's the same ticket, your baggage is transferred. If you miss the flight because QF is late, they will move you to another flight... That may include an overnight stay at the airlines expense depending how full other flights are.

This would function just like any other connecting flight you've taken. Since British Airways is a Qantas Partner, your checked luggage will be checked all the way through to London without the need for your to recollect in Singapore, even IF it is delayed. In the event of a delay and you end up missing your British Airways flight, as long as both flights are on the same booking, they will rebook you on the next available flight. If that requires a night's stay at Singapore, they will provide meal vouchers and hotel stays. Depending on your credit card or travel inssurance, you may be eligible for compensation in addition to what the airline offers you.

I have done this in reverse - London to HK on BA and connected Straight through to BNE on Qantas - no issues, and if there were agree with what the others have said above

How much is the fare?

Luggage will be checked through from QF to BA under their joint Oneworld membership, the one hour at SIN is the difficult bit because if there is literally 60 minutes between your QF flight arriving and the BA flight leaving, you will have to step off the QF flight and proceed immediately to the BA departure gate, there is zero lounge time. Remember that SIN has security at the boarding gates too so you always need to allow more time there. If there is a delay with QF then you will be taken care off. BA has two SIN-LHR flights about an hour apart, BA12 and BA16, so if you were booked onto the earlier of those two BA flights but your inbound QF flight is delayed you and your checked luggage will be moved to the later BA flight. If you miss the BA flight entirely QF will have to put you up overnight in SIN. If you go ahead with this booking I would let the QF cabin crew know about this tight connection when you are on board, they will have it on the manifest anyway but it won't hurt to remind them close to landing, they can at the very least check on the departure gate for your BA flight and tell you this so you know right away where to go, and maybe they can also help expedite your getting off the flight before the rest of the passengers so save another 5-10 minutes. Ideally they will have staff to greet you with that gate info on arrival, if things are a bit tight they will probably have one of Changi's 'golf cart' buggies at the QF arrivals gate to zip you to the BA departure gate.

You must have flights on same ticket. Big problem with people buying separate tickets online and then bags not being through checked and when there is a disrupt no responsibility taken by airline to deal with your next flight.

As long as you’re on the same ticket then all good. It makes no difference who the second flight is with as long as it’s on the same ticket. The fact that BA is, like Qantas, in One World is interesting but irrelevant in this situation. If you were / are on seperate tickets, if your first flight is delayed then that’s your problem. On one through ticket it’s Qantas’s problem and would be dealt with as outlined above by others.

QF may well transfer your baggage but beware coming back. Recently I was ticketed on a QF Business Class Rewards flight LHR-DUS on BA with the onwards journey from DUS on EK to DBX. We only had one hour in DUS to transfer to the EK flight. BA flatly refused to ticket our luggage through to DBX telling us we had to collect luggage clear customs & immigration then recheck in. QF's ticketing only allowed 75minutes between the two flights. Nowhere near enough time to do all of this given EX close check-in 45 mins before flight. As expected we eventually arrived at the EK check-in to find it deserted save for a chap in their reservations office. After explaining our difficulties and mentioning we were in Business Class he went into overdrive, made a call and ushered us through the formalities and we were the last to board and once seated I realised that they'd held the flight. But what is the deal with BA not transferring luggage to EK?
