Hi all,

I've applied a passport for my daughter more than 3 weeks ago and still haven't got it yet. Tried to call the passport office today and was told there was a lengthy delay. But it's strange there's no mention about delays on the website or on the call whilst I was holding. The recording still says 3 weeks processing time. Anyone in the same boat? Just got a feeling that the agent picked up my call wasn't willing to help.

A lot of people let their passports expire during the last 18 months either intentionally or because they weren't planning any trips they didn't think about it. Also there are a large number of Australians that have never needed a passport as they have never travelled overseas.

We are heading towards the Christmas holidays one of the peak travelling periods in the year.

QANTAS's ad about flying again had one of the characters realise his passport had expired, a not too subtle hint to check your passport expiry and renew it if it has expired.

With international travel back there's likely been a surge in demand for passports pushing out wait times. Had you applied a month or two earlier you likely would have had a shorter wait.

There hv been a few threads about passports the last 2 years here and other sites, with several posters being righteous about how they will be saving a year's validity by not renewing pp's prior to their expiry. So I cant really have much sympathy for delays now that ppl are dusting off travel docs and going 'oh need to renew' and finding there are process delays and that the process is more complicated because they cant use an expired passport as ID for the renewal..

You can use an expired passport as ID to apply for a new one, provided the old passport expired less than three years ago.

Sorry, wasn’t clear - a current pp is All you need for renewal application whereas an expired pp can form part of the 100 point ID check ..

That's correct and the government even sent me and the missus a text message and email letting us know that we could do this.

As sid : suggested 4 remarks ago, just go to the link he displayed (https://www.executivetraveller.com/expert-tips-to-speed-up-your-australian-passport-renewal) which should help you in more ways than one. My other suggestion is to keep phoning the Home Affairs office for them to give you a solution to your problem. Here's the info ..... In Australia Phone: 131 881 Outside Australia Phone: +61 2 6196 0196

We are in the same situation, we applied for a new passport end of October for our daughter and no word from the passport office.

We tried calling but once you get to the speak to an operator it just hangs up . . tried calling for 2 weeks now and same result . . the phone hangs up when you want to speak to an operator. . nothing on the Passport website about delays . . can’t even find out if they actually have the application although we have a receipt from the post office but cannot contact the Australian Passport Office. Getting worried that it’s missing actually and we can’t find any update on it.

We were going to travel before end of school holidays but obviously can’t as no passport for our daughter.

Very frustrating and cannot get any update.
