Emirates lounge access for Malaysia Airlines first, business

Emirates lounge access for Malaysia Airlines first, business

Malaysia Airlines first class and business class passengers can now enjoy access to Emirates airport lounges worldwide.

It's one of the lesser-known benefits of the codeshare partnership between the Gulf colossus and the Malaysian flag-carrier, but there it sits, right on the MAS website...

A quick flash of the boarding pass for your Malaysia Airlines first class or business class flight should be all that's needed to see those doors swing open at Emirates lounges around the world, including Kuala Lumpur (if you don't fancy Malaysia's own lounge).

If you're also packing a Platinum, Gold or Silver card for Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich frequent flyer program you can bring a guest into the Emirates lounge.

However, those shiny Enrich cards don't grant you access to Emirates lounges if you're flying in Malaysia Airlines' economy class.

Good! Until Malaysia Airlines finish refreshing their lounges - this is an awesome perk!

Not in London though. Emirates operates from Heathrow Terminal 3 whereas Malaysia Airlines uses Terminal 4.

David, the Emirates lounge access for MH First and Business pax have been on the Malaysia Airlines website for a while now (may even be since late 2015) and Tim Clark in an interview about the then new MH/Emirates partnership also mentioned the reciprocal lounge access.  In reality though, Emirates lounge staff in Sydney and Singapore have denied us access when flying MH business class as recent as June and November 2016. When I showed the Singapore door staff the Tim Clark interview and the statement on MH's website, I was told it doesn't matter what I have read or can show. If they don't have a directive from Head Office about MH F/J pax access, then they are not allowed to let us in.

However, when departing KUL on Emirates in August, we decided to test the reciprocal access at the KLIA Satellite Golden Lounge.  The manager who happened to be at the entry desk allowed use in but explained that in reality, they wee still discussing about the reciprocal lounge access and it wasn't official yet. (Why is it on the MH website when it is not supposedly official).

Are you able to confirm directly with the 2 airlines if this reciprocal lounge access is now in fact official?

Sounds like this started after my last MH flight.
RTW trip in 2014, last flights were KUL-SIN MH/SIN-BNE QF. Had quite some time between flights and QF lounge was closed, went to the EK lounge.
The QF52 boarding pass was printed on MH stock and the EK lounge agent was confused thinking that I wasn't allowed access until I pointed out the "QF52" printed on the pass.

This is simply not correct. You only had access EK lounge if you are flying on EK code shared MH flights to europe.  Tried at KLIA and was denied access as BIZ PAX to Australia.

First Class and Business Class passengers are entitled to access the operating carrier lounges at the airport where the flights are departing from.

Example:

First Class and Business Class passengers travelling on Malaysia Airlines operatedflights has access to the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounges.

First Class and Business Class passengers travelling on Emirates operated flights has access to the Emirates lounges.”

I am travelling with Malaysian Airlines as a Business Class passenger from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur. As Malaysian Airlines does not have a lounge in Sydney, which Business Class Lounge, does anyone know which lounge I can have access to? Also my onwards flight from Kuala Lumpur to Muscat and then Muscat to Manchester is with Oman Air, similarly, they also do not have a lounge in Kuala Lumpur or Muscat. Again, which lounge can I use?

Yes you can use Qantas Business Class Lounge in Sydney, Malaysia Airlines Business Class Lounge in Kuala Lumpur and Oman Air have now opened their new Business Class Lounge in Muscat. Hope that helps you.

Awesome, thanks for your quick response! Did you try using the Emirates lounge at all? I'd like to try as I heard its quite nice, and the Qantas one gets packed out.

Tried to access EK lounge at SIN today holding a MH J boarding pass and was refused. MH’s own website is not exactly clear (as referenced in a comment above). Suggest removing or archiving this article from the ABT site.

Hi Crfe, this article was published almost two years ago now (you can spot the publication date at the top of the piece). We don't proactively keep old articles up-to-date when details change - this would be a full-time job in itself - so articles published here are considered correct as per the publication date, unless updated.
