This airline just launched a three-person first class ‘super-suite’

Travelling in the ‘First Grand Suite’ is the next best thing to being on a private jet.

With business class continuing to embrace high-wall suites with sliding privacy doors, large 4K screens and other creature comforts, airlines are working smarter as well as harder to elevate the first class experience even further.

One approach is a ‘double suite’ which can be shared by two travellers.

Singapore Airlines pioneered this almost 20 years ago, on the Airbus A380, where the wall between the adjacent middle suites could be lowered to create a double bed.

Lufthansa’s new Allegris first class suites – also adopted by sibling Swiss – include an oversized Suite Plus in the middle of the cabin which can be booked by one or two passengers.

Now Swiss has taken that concept one step further with what it calls the First Grand Suite, and it’s the next best thing to being on a private jet.

Launching in January 2026 on Swiss’ Airbus A350s, and following on the Boeing 777-9 fleet, the First Grand Suite combines the middle double suite and one of the two window suites, with the aisle between them closed off.

“Reserved solely for you and your companions, the space remains completely separated from the rest of the cabin, offering complete seclusion with exclusive access,” Swiss promises.

“Use the spacious centre suite to focus, work, or meet up with your colleagues, while the suite by the window remains a space for you alone, to rest and recharge.”

Alternatively, couples can enjoy a shared meal in the single suite while the middle suite serves as a dedicated bedroom.

Swiss also believe the additional space will suit familles who want more room to move.

“Our Grand Suite should give our guests all the feeling of having their own ‘loft aloft’ – a space that they can use as they wish, to relax, to work or just to enjoy the experience,” explains Swiss’ Chief Commercial Officer Heike Birlenbach.

Swiss says the First Grand Suite is “specifically aimed at those of our top premium customers who are seeking even more privacy.”

And the price? While the First Grand Suite can’t be booked online – customers have to contact the Swiss First Hotline concierge – the airline says this three-person suite will average at “triple the regular first class fare”.

But there’s no doubt the First Grand Suite will appeal to the highest of high flyers – especially in Switzerland, renowned for its private banks, wealth management and pharmaceuticals.

This will include those who regularly travel in first class but are accompanied by a nanny or colleagues seated in a different cabin – typically business class – with whom they’re like to interact in a comfortable, private environment.

I live in Switzerland and fly Swiss First a lot. This is the silliest idea I’ve seen. Who wants to pay the normal first airfare for 2-people to share a smaller space (compared to 2 seats), a single TV, a single dining area, etc? When I fly with my partner we have very different flight schedules. This setup means you have to eat at the same time, watch TV (and the same movie) at the same time and sleep at the same time. All for the same price? Crazy.

The Singapore A380 combo suite is a different story; you have your own complete space which you can combine only if you want and if you do, it’s double the size.

Yep.. it doesn't matter how hard they try, these things still look like a fancy camper van.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if an aisle is closed off to provide this fancy suite, as stated, how does this impact safety, and in particular, a speedy evacuation?
