Uber cuts Qantas Points earning
The rideshare giant is cutting back on Qantas Point earning opportunities.
Uber is removing the ability to earn Qantas Points on everyday rides for Uber for Business users.
The rideshare giant currently lets Qantas Frequent Flyers earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on Uber Business Comfort, Comfort Electric, and Black rides.
As of 1 May 2026, Qantas Points will be accumulated only on trips to and from most Australian airports.
In addition, the one point-per-dollar rate will apply only for booking in advance through the Uber Reserve service.
For all other on-demand bookings, the rate is halved to 1 Qantas Point for every $2 spent.
This is the same structure now in place for personal users of the mainstream Uber service.
Both Uber and Uber for Business will continue to offer a one-off bonus of 1,000 Qantas Points when Uber customers link their Uber and Qantas Frequent Flyer accounts and take their first-ever Uber trip.
Uber shut down its own free Uber Rewards program in 2022, which offered conventional points-earning and status tiers, replacing it with the paid Uber One subscription program charged at $10 per month for discounted Uber rides and Uber Eats meal deliveries.
In related news, as previously reported, Uber will acquire European firm Blacklane in a deal estimated to be worth more than €500 million to establish a new chauffeur service.
Blacklane will provide the foundation for the new Uber Elite service aimed at premium travellers and business executives in over 500 cities.
Elite will initially be part of the Uber app’s Reserve section for placing advance bookings, rather than be a ‘chauffeur on demand’, with a meet-and-greet service at arrivals, luggage assistance, and the guarantee of a driver who knows the ins and outs of the local airport’s layout better than a Google Maps algorithm.
In this way, Uber Elite intends to provide a consistent, premium experience that the “black car” segment has occasionally lacked.

Everytimd I’ve tried the uber advance booking the driver has arrived 30mins early, I haven’t been ready and had to cancel and then reorder at the actual time needed. Seems like a time waster for me and the driver so I stopped using it.

"As of 1 May 2026, Qantas Points will be accumulated only on trips to and from most Australian airports."; this is the case already.
I personally don't like Uber, thanks to the surge pricing (which just happens to be when the flight lands, duh) and also the fact that you can be the best, most polite, respectful and neutral passenger, tip the maximum $5 and still get a subjective, bad rating that will influence whether you can use the service in the future.

Maybe QF First (and other carriers) could look at offering a complimentary limousine transfer like EK does ?
