There’s a new way to use your Qantas Points to snare a seat to Europe at top-value Classic Reward rates – and yes, that includes business class – thanks to a new Gulf airline joining the Qantas partner ranks.

That airline is Oman Air, flag carrier of the Arabian state of Oman and from 30 June 2025, the newest member of the Oneworld alliance.

But you don’t need to wait until the middle of next year to book an Oman Air flight with Qantas Points: Qantas has inked an early partnership with the Muscat-based carrier which makes business and economy seats on Oman Air flights available right now using Qantas Points.

And those frequent flyer seats are off to a flying start, with Qantas seeing almost one thousand points-based bookings in the first few weeks of the partnership.

Where you can fly with Oman Air

Although Oman Air doesn’t fly to Australia, its network includes the following connecting destinations around Asia:

  • Bangalore (Qantas)
  • Bangkok (Qantas, Jetstar)
  • Delhi (Qantas)
  • Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia Airlines)
  • Manila (Qantas)
  • Jakarta (Qantas)
  • Phuket (Jetstar)

Most of those cities are a relatively short hop to Muscat – you’re looking at around 6-7 hours from Asia and under four hours from India, with the longest route being a nine-hour stretch from Manila.

From Muscat, Oman Air flies to popular European destinations including London, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Munich, Milan and Zurich, most of which are 7-8 hours away (Istanbul is the exception, at a zippy 5h30m).

Of course, this means any trip to Europe with Oman Air involves two stops and three flights, compared to the usual one-stop option of flying with Qantas, Emirates, Cathay Pacific or JAL, for example.

But if you’ve got the time – or are willing to make the time –  why not treat the journey as part of your trip?

Instead of just changing planes at Muscat, spend a few days there. You’ll discover a city teeming with fascinating history, wonderful food and memorable experiences, as well as being far more ‘authentic’ than the likes of Dubai.
