What new routes would you like to see opened, now Singapore airlines are starting Singapore - Canberra - Wellington? Personally I would like to se the following:

Hobart -Singapore, Hobart - Auckland, Townsville - Auckland, Canberra - Auckland, Alice Springs - Singapore, broome - Singapore, and Adelaide - Fiji - Honolulu. Before anyone asks I live in rural Victoria so don't have any bias.

I think the only likely route that would work out of those you suggested is Canberra-Auckland and maybe at a stretch Hobart-Auckland. Virgin used to do Adelaide-Nadi and pulled out.

It would be good to see some new local regional routes open up to feed more passengers into Canberra to take advantage of this "Capital Express" route and the other services and infrastructure that Canberra supplies to its' catchment.

Article in Canberra Times 29th Jan, about Wagga getting the ball rolling on potential flights to Canberra.

They already have Air New Zealand and Virgin to do that for them, they don't need to do it

100% agree. It would be like SQ starting direct SYD-LAX services - there's no point.

I'd vote for SYD>>>LAX on SQ,  when do they start???

SQ would like to do SYD-LAX but they have no traffic rights and are unlikely to get them.

To the OP, it's doubtful we will see anymore SQ fifth freedom flights from Aus to NZ.

Hobart to Singapore is the only flight that could be a possibility...one day.

Would be keen to hear your thinking behind these routes.

I prefer VA's Economy seats in the 77W over SQ's

The prospect of SQ widebody vs NZ/VA 320/738 is appealing though, as is getting "full service" on a *A carrier trans-Tasman.

Whilst it is possible for SQ to operate across to NZ (and we may see some other Aus-NZ routes), it is unlikely due to SQ not wanting to increase competition against one company it partly owns and another company it co-operates with between NZ-SIN.

Additionally, with the amount of capacity between Aus-NZ I'd be very very surprised if there was much yield on these routes. CBR-WLG may be different due to the unique circumstances of the route.

Townsville - Auckland should be up by end of the year, at this stage Jetstar would be the most likely to take it on but a Singapore - Townsville - Auckland return service with Singapore airlines would be great, would change to Virgin FF away from QF if that occurred, Virgin are building a lounge in Townsville airport expansion as well which would make the switch easy.

SYD-LAX? I don't think SQ management is that stupid.

They'd be financially killed in the rush, with the number of competitors across the Pacific these days.

Times have changed drastically over the past few years from when SQ first mooted their desire.

Seriously, the competition is a lot larger, the Australian dollar has fallen (making the USA more expensive), the current incumbents have improved their fleet (ie: UA's new B787-9's vs old B747-400's with limited IFE) and there are new entrants. Let's not forget more agressive - lower - fares.

Given SQ's somewhat shrinking influence to Europe, I frankly don't see SQ being mad enough to try something like that on a financial basis - and I'd suggest that the 'politics' of the issue would also stain a number of parties' patience also.

Incorrectly linked. Should be under @hutch's 3.1.1(3).

Also 'stain' should read 'strain'.
