With Malaysia Airlines shifting its Airbus A380s over to a new offshoot airline to carry Muslim travellers on Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, the airline's CEO Peter Bellew has confirmed to Bloomberg News that the superjumbos will be stripped back to "accommodate as many as 700 people in a single class". That's not only way up from the current 494-seat layout, it'll be the highest seatcount of any A380.
It's still not the maximum seats possible on an A380. I believe their testing involved evacuating 850 passengers with half the doors obstructed within 90 seconds.
Wow, I'd heard the MH A380s would become single-class but 700 seats, that's massive. They better fit some a lot of extra toilets while they are doing the reconfig!

I heard that airlines were looking to do that for Haj pilgrims. Cost effective for all involved, but pretty tight. I'd love to know how long boarding and deplaning would take.

Nothing surprising but I wonder if it'll make them a profit? A350 to London will replace the A380 which I'm interested in.
