From 1 November 2017 travel on Air New Zealand Trans Pacific flights to and from the Americas and flights to and from Asia will be ineligible for Points earn. View destinations ineligible for Points earn.
When viewing the destinations it seems LAX is one of them.
Trans Pacific refers to the following Air New Zealand destinations:
Honolulu, United States of America (HNL)
Los Angeles, United States of America (LAX)
San Francisco, United States of America (SFO)
Houston, United States of America (IAH)
Vancouver, Canada (YVR)
Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE)
London Heathrow (LHR) via Los Angeles (LAX)
We have no interest in the Air New Zealand Airpoints program so we were wondering if anyone has successfully added their KrisFlyer number to their Air New Zealand booking and receieved points and/or status credits? Or if anyone has a better suggestion. I've never tried it but I gather you can't add your Velocity # to the Trans-Tasman route and an alternative program # to the Trans-Pacific?
You can earn KrisFlyer points if you're flying J on Air New Zealand.
If you want to credit the two sectors to different programs, you can leave the points details blank and then make separate retrospective points claims, or you could leave the booking with the Velocity number and then request that they change the AKL-LAX when you check in to the lounge. You might need to confirm what loyalty program you're crediting the separate sectors to for the return flights.
You can also transfer KF points back to Velocity FF points later on, a a discount, ie, you will need more KF points for VFF points. Downside of this is that there is no VFF SC earnt on the AKL - LAX either by entering the wife's KF # as SC do not transfer between KF and VFF, and on its own, she will also not earn any VFF points AKL - LAX, she will earn KF points and KF SC, but they (SC) don't convert to VFF, so she will loose status from these flights.
And don't expect VFF to join *A anytime soon. No airlines has joined the major 3 alliances in the past 2 years, and the CEO of the airline running VFF was never a fan of alliances in general.
I did write to JB one time, about VA joining *A, and he wrote back a reply that there is forseeable plan to join *A, so I already knew the current VA CEO is not into joining *A. I didn't keep the letter.

Once again a considerable devaluation of global flight benefits from Velocity--fortunately Air NZ has a good IT system for splitting programs on your layover. While it is possible to perform retro-claims for both programs, you can also take care of it at the airport. This can be accomplished in one of two ways. If you want to credit the trans-tasman sector to Velocity, and the trans-pacific sector to KrisFlyer, quote your Velocity membership number on the reservation. On arrival in Auckland, go to the lounge service desk and ask them to change your frequent flyer information to reflect your Krisflyer account. If you want to credit both sectors to KrisFlyer, or avail yourself of Velocity benefits while crediting to Krisflyer in the scenario above, this can be accomplished at any time either at the check-in counter, the lounge service desk or by phone--quote your Krisflyer membership number as the primary frequent flyer account (FQTV field on GDS), and quote your Velocity number as the supplementary frequent flyer account (FQTS field on GDS). This process sometimes confuses more junior ground staff, but persistence will get you results--some more experienced agents will know what you mean by FQTV and FQTS because they are familiar with command-line GDS; others will only know the primary and supplementary fields, which is what Air NZ calls them in their ground staff training.

You can earn KrisFlyer points if you're flying J on Air New Zealand.

VFF is not a member of *A either.
Pity this is so, but thats the way it is.
If VFF was in *A, she would earn VFF SC.
