SQ...nice planes shame about the new business class seats

OMG just got off the MOST uncomfortable flight in my life caused by designers let loose on new J seats on the 777300 and I'm told most of the rest of the fleet.

Raise your hands all those that think sitting at 45 degrees to the screen in front is a great idea...

The lower back is in agony and I have a connecting long haul to Europe in the same style seat in 2 hours.

Then back again in a few weeks but I think that's up for discussion.

The clever publicists don't show the seat in front of you in all the new flashy advertising...or mention the fact that anyone over 4 foot 6 has to put their legs at an angle onto a padded shelf if you want to raise your feet.

The seat in front is just too close.

The one upside is that the new pull down bed design is wider at the shoulders so you don't feel you're sleeping in a drinking straw like most other airlines.

It looks good on the photo. Very luxurious and looks like first class. But agree it's quite uncomfortable either for lounging or sleeping (except the bulkhead seats).

Are these the same as the seats on A350s? If so, then I totally agree (haven’t been on the 773). I’m only 170cm tall but sleeping with feet pinned in that letterbox was the most uncomfortable thing for the 10hrs from MXP to SIN. I even preferred the angled seats of their regional 772 over these new ones.

These are hardly new... SIA has had them since 2013. I am 6' 1'' with size 14 feet and I fit fine on them. I can even sleep on my stomach. I agree the angle is not optimal, but the foot room is the main concern and that is no different from a number of other straight seat designs.

Anyway, I guess you mean their 777-300ERs and not the regular -300s with their old regional seats (those are truly bad).

I was lucky enough to score the bulkhead seats for all 10 times i've flown in SQ J but that was before they restricted them to PPS members only. I've had bulkheads on A380, A350 and 77W and all were excellent with the full width bench making it possible to man spread and point my legs/feet in any direction i like. I will be making another booking with them soon and i'm not looking forward to being stuck in a regular seat.

Might be worth pointing out that the bulkhead seats are actually marginally shorter when lying down. If you are tall take one the other ones.

Thats correct, they are only 18 months old. I was never a fan of the old wide business class seat that has limited recline (A380) however they really managed to stuff it up this time with this new seat. Storage is awkward and im not a fan of sitting on an angle to the screen. The nook for your feet was already small on the old seat but this time its even smaller. ive asked crew about feedback and it seems most flyers do not like them. I found the seat quite hard also and my lower back was sore after 4 hours. Whoever was in charge of this seats development has failed. Service was top notch though, can never fault it.

If you want to experience luxury on a B777-300 with spaciousness, great bed and exceptional amenities try the EK flights from Brussell or Geneva to Dubai. Only 6 hours flight but you wont want to go to sleep to enjoy the first class booths.

I found it more then comfortable and I'm 6'4. I'm happy to sleep on the angle. A lot worse J class out there then SQ.

I have just returned from LHR return on Singapore A-380s and a 777, all with the same new business class seat. I agree- the design is a disaster! I have flown BC on Qantas, VA, Etihad and Emirates and the Singapore seats are the most uncomfortable flights I have encountered - not only the angle but the seats themselves are rock hard and the token mattress wafer thin. The angle is ridiculous and the tiny footwell is smaller than mostothers. All in all, some smart designer's "good idea at the time" has turned into a multi-million dollar headache for Singapore Airlines. I certainly won't fly with them again. If I want gross discomfort for 24 hours I can fly economy on any airline.

Quite a few of those prized bulkhead seats have bassinets too

These seats were only introduced on 777s in 2013, and there were only about 8 deliveries after that, so earlier planes have been refitted slowly (the last will fly in October).

Since you plane may have been a refit its possibly the seats on that aircraft were only 18 months old.
