Hi all.

I was reading a travel article about Airline Lounge food and they mentioned that JAL serves Sharkfin soup in its home base lounges. I for one think its appalling and is enough not to fly with them. Has anybody else come across this?

Thanks, Taylor

If that's true then that is disgraceful.

Article by a blogger sharing a photo from a reader, blogger hasn't even bothered to check with the JAL if this is in fact true: https://loyaltylobby.com/2019/05/06/shame-on-japan-airlines-shark-fin-soup-served-in-first-class-lounges/

I was at the Haneda First Lounge last week but didn't see it, albeit I was there in the morning.

Although the author mentions this point, I don't think real shark fin is generally served these days for reasons including community expectations as well as the exorbitant cost, so it is usually an imitation made of flour. Of course I can't provide certainty on the matter but assuming it is imitation, the only reason they use the contentious name is to capture the flavour of the soup which is pretty unique

Shark fin soup is yummy, moreover, I hope every Australian realise that Sharks kill people, especially on our Australian shores.

Therefore, if we eat them all, sharks will never appear in Australia ever again, and every swimmer and surfer, will be safe, forever.

Negative votes for what is clearly a bad taste joke? PC gone mad.

Just because someone feels like telling a bad taste joke, doesn't mean others need to support it.

As for the subject at hand, it would be nice for the blogger to have approached JAL for a response.

Definitely not suggesting “support”, which implies a positive vote, should have been provided.

Shark fin doesn’t taste much different to glass noodles. It has no taste and it’s the broth that makes it tasty. People only eat it because it’s a ‘delicacy’. Thus not worth the strain on resources.
