I am about to reach Lifetime Gold with Qantas, apart from the obvious (Gold status for life), what are the benefits? Is there any difference between Gold and Lifetime Gold, i.e. is there any difference (Benefits) between someone who has only just reached Gold for the first time and someone with Lifetime Gold?

As above no real difference, other than Lifetime printed on the card.

And a fairly plain letter congratulating you.

I'm in a similar boat. I'm a little miffed that I've got about 2 years of Qantas Club membership which I paid for about 10 years ago and has been suspended ever since, which will vanish into the ether.

Be nice if I could give it to someone!

Surely you can ask for a refund?

Not sure that they would pro rata refunds but you can only ask.

People have had success with QP refunds. Not for Lifetime QP (you used to be able to buy that but not anymore) though.

The inability to purchase Qantas Club life membership is a significant incentive for me to achieve Lifetime Gold. I suspect this is not unintentional, although nothing is forever: I was a life member of Ansett Golden Wing . . . little did I know that its life would be shorter than mine . . .

Actually, thats a good question...

I recall I paid $600 or $700 back in the 90's but went Silver then Gold in year 1, then Platinum in year 2, and LTG maybe 11 years ago.

Surely Qantas could run the numbers and work out those of us with membership paid for but unrealised and allow us a 1x gift to someone?

I would think the option for gifting in the first 12 months of LTG would not really cost Qantas anything other than some processing and additional lounge visit costs but expose the Qantas Club product to a non-member and would then should generate loyalty from the giftee. It would be a further "thank you for your business over the longterm" for the giftor to. In the end if the giftee doesn't fly QF/JQ they won't loose anything but if they then show a preference to fly QF/JQ QF win.

The pool of giftees could be either your eligible family members but more smartly a work colleague would potentially drive more revenue and loyalty to QF.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. The only downside is the revenue cannot be recognised the moment someone goes LTG

@Rufus1 : have you asked for a refund? When I reached Lifetime Gold, I contacted Qantas and they refunded me my Qantas Club credit of around $300 (I think, don't recall the amount now) which had been sitting in escrow for years.

Agreed - absolutely zero difference except "LIFETIME" is listed as the expiry date on the card. I don't even remember the letter :-)

Mine was refunded - just send a request after you achieve LTG

Haven't quite got there yet, so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. To be honest I hadn't even thought to ask - I'd be just as happy to give it away to family...

Call them when you get life time gold, they cannot refund your Qantas Club until you are registered as a life time member.
I called Platinum they did mine about two years ago, no problems.
