Singapore Airlines now serves 'Impossible Meat' satay for vegetarians

Singapore Airlines is giving one of its most-loved dishes a thoroughly modern twist, with satay sticks made from the plant-based Impossible Meat.

The signature dish of business and first class still comes with that spicy peanut sauce, but the chicken, lamb and beef has been swapped out for a vegetarian-friendly equivalent created by the California's Impossible Foods to deliver the same taste and texture.

The 'impossible satay' isn't just for vegetarians and vegans, however: like other modern meat substitutes, it's also an occasional choice for health-conscious carnivores.

Singapore Airlines says its Impossible Meat satay has been "specially created" to complement vegetarian meals, many of which can be ordered in advance through the airline's Book the Cook service.

The non-meat satay will be available through Singapore Airlines' new home delivery of business class and first classs meals and also on its Airbus A380 'pop-up restaurant', which will see the grounded superjumbo transformed into a dining venue at Singapore's Changi Airport on October 24-25.

Reservations for the home meal service open on October 5, with a full 'dining experience' for two including wine or Champagne starting at SGD$288; bookings for the Restaurant A380 @Changi will be available at SGD$300 per person in business class and SGD$600 per person in the spacious first class suites.
