Singapore Airlines: 50% off KrisFlyer economy award bookings

In celebration of 50 years of flying, Singapore AirlinesKrisFlyer members can use their frequent flyer points to book selected Singapore Airlines and SilkAir economy flights at just 50% of the usual mileage cost.

For travel through July 10 2015, that includes SQ’s services from Brisbane and Perth to Singapore plus SIlkAir’s Darwin-Singapore flights, and then beyond to destinations such as London, Zurich, Houston, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Johannesburg and Maldives.

You’ll need just 12,500 KrisFlyer miles each way between Brisbane and Changi Airport or a lesser 10,000 points from Perth or Darwin, although Singapore Airlines’ Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide flights aren’t discounted as part of the deal.

Onwards from Singapore, Beijing and Shanghai are just 10,000 miles away; London Heathrow and Zurich follow at 17,500 miles and Houston at 18,750 miles – that’s a return trip from Brisbane to Europe for only 60,000 KrisFlyer miles!

The only catch? You’ll need to book those connecting flights on a separate itinerary for the discount to take effect, so lock in your dates from Australia to Singapore and back on one reservation, and then make an additional return booking from Singapore to your choice of far-flung destination.

Virgin Australia Velocity members could also get in on the deal by converting their Velocity frequent flyer points to KrisFlyer miles on a 1.35:1 basis and then booking their flights directly through KrisFlyer.

For a full list of discounted routes or to book your ticket, head to the Singapore Airlines website.

"that’s a return trip from Brisbane to Europe for only 30,000 KrisFlyer miles!". I believe that is the one way price, no?

Indeed – cheers for spotting the typo, we've corrected the figure.

The problem is the high fuel surcharge. For a roundtrip you will be looking at paying $400 in fuel surcharges, when you can actually get a return ticket for $773. Even with discount, that gives you a value of ~1.5 cents per KF miles which is not very good.

Malaysia Airlines also have a similar deal for all travel completed by 9th July. They , however , are doing 50% off flights to KL from ALL Australian cities in BOTH economy and business class ie 27,500 miles economy and 55,000 business class. Just booked our business class redemption to KL for end of June - no hassles at all.
