I can confirm that thew refurb A380s have the same AV systems in economy as before. They didn't even change the screens. Only the graphic interface has been updated to the newest version.

I thought it was quite objective - criticisms of VA on their shortcomings and highlighting Qantas' strengths where applicable.. so where exactly is it unfairly biased to VA?

In my opinion, I think losing $50 to get the rest of your cash back now is a sound move. You just won't know what might happen down the track. That's the point of flexible fares, right?

I just had a look through Expertflyer, and all the seats that are unavailable are indeed occupied by real people. Yes, chase it up with Qantas and ask for the difference between first class and business class for that route (in your case, 48,000 Qantas Points).
