An opinion piece in a U.K. newspaper suggests most passengers would be reticent to travel in a Comac C919, similar to a 737 but made in China. No major Western carrier has ordered this aircraft yet, though there may be reasons to do so including that immediate delivery is available. I'm interested in what others think. Many people now drive a Chinese car, so how about flying in a Chinese plane? Comments appreciated and I've included a poll as well.

Poll: Would you fly on a Comac C919?

Nope, refuse to fly on a 737MAX also.

Why not? I fly Boeing planes, which I'm sure like Airbus and Comac have parts made in China and parts made elsewhere.

Is the plane certified yet outside of China?

Reportedly will apply for EASA certification this year. Wonder if some European (LCC?) carriers are interested in it.

By this nonsense logic you should have refused to fly on 747s because of all the accidents they had, you shouldn't fly on 737-800s either or A320s because of how many incidents they have had. You probably shouldn't be flying on A350s because of the problems with the fuselages. You might as well start walking to your destination.

The 737 MAX 8 would just about be the safest aircraft to fly on given all the additional scrutiny from the FAA. If you don't want to fly on a plane with Chinese parts then don't fly on any Boeing or Airbus. Also, the engines and most systems on the Comac are European/American.

Would refuse on principle of where it's made. Although note it would not be a plane without mostly western parts. It's going to be used as a geopolitical tool to advance CCP interests. Likewise would not buy a Chinese vehicle. Have flown on 737 max in USA and have no issues doing so again.

If you're going to criticize someone else for their "nonsense logic" perhaps pay attention to your talking points?

(a.) Comparing the 737MAX to the 747 is nonsense. There was nothing fundamentally wrong with the 747. Every 747 accident was exactly that....an accident. (Something you inadvertently conceded and undermined your whole 737MAX/747 comparison). I don't recall 747 engineers installing and the hiding MCAS from the airlines and pilots, do you?

(b.) What 'incidents' on the 737-800 are you talking about which are comparable to the two 737MAX crashes caused by MCAS. You don't even bother backing up with evidence.

(c.) And what about your 737MAX/a320 comparison. What 'incidents' are there? You don't say anything. And how does the 737MAX even compare to the a320? Different plane. Different manufacturer. Different design.

(d.) Did any a350 crash because of the fuselage issues? Or did Qatar Airways ground the fleet? How is this comparable to the 737MAX crashes caused by MCAS?

(e.) The FAA?? Oh, yes....that wonderful paragon of regulatory oversight. I heard they're going into a sponsorship deal with that other paragon of excellence called SkyTrax.

World is in turbulence right now and it appears like outcome of this turbulence will be division of the world in to two parts and frankly I think that "Western" part will not win because of this.

So you actively support this division?

I would be hesitant base on quality record they have. However saying that I was almost ready to buy Chinese made car as my next set of wheels. It looks like they changing, so never say never.

Once certified in Europe and USA I would have no hesitation - perhaps rather than a Boeing these days.

BTW despite the handle I am not Chinese. We all use advanced Chinese made products every day thus why not an aircraft.
