The possible QF Perth - London service appears to be firming up.  There is a story in The West today suggesting that AJ will be in Perth tomorrow to make an announcement.  Watch The West online if you are interested in 787 route announcements (maybe!)

Does Alan Joyce actually know how to get to Perth?

I have been sceptical that QF were just using the interest in it for press exposure, but recently it is sounding credible.  Met a Perth based CSM who said it he thought it would go ahead.

It's great if this happens and I love Perth, but on a personal level, I'd much rather have a stopover in a city such a Singapore or Hong Kong and have a few hours break in a worldwide advanced airport with a numerous amount of facilities. I'm sure I am not the only one.

To what extent will this new route cannibalise the existing ex-SYD or ex-MEL? In my mind the PER lounge needs to be upgraded to SYD or MEL First lounge standards. Otherwise QFF/OW loyalist will use their existing channels to get to London i.e.  via Dubai or for anti-UAEs BA, CX or AY routes.

The Qantas lounge at Perth domestic T4 was put in about a year ago and from what I've heard is a great lounge.

Yes it is a great lounge but at certain times it is very crowded with the FIFO army and nowhere near the standard of the SYD first space

Reading the other article from the AusBT team (seriously, they're making you work this hard on a Sunday!), it would seem QF9/10 will take over the MEL-LHR service.

If you look at current timings, QF9 departs MEL at 1125p - which means a nominal arrival into PER around 0030a - which would be an hour or so after the last east coast flight has departed...So theoretically, the lounge would be very quite and very clean, with fresh food laid out and showers ready to go...

On QF10, I'm assuming they are looking to get QF10 onto the deck in PER just before the start of the early PM east coast flights - which by my early calcs would seem possible...

The new.com.au site introduced the story as "THIS record-breaking flight is expected to take off from Perth next week.", jumping the gun a tad referreing to the announcement and then continued "And at 17.5 hours non-stop, it’s only for the brave" which is certainly true for most of the passengers squished into Sardine 'Class' at the back of the 787 Nightmareliner.

Probably due to the fact it is a J lounge.   Having said that, I believe it is rated as the best of the QF J lounges in Australia.  Further, amongst all that has been printed about this new route, I believe I saw a statement that an F lounge will be included in the T3 upgrade.
