Hi all,

I raised this issue a few weeks ago and got satisfactory answers.

The answers raised a few questions for me though.

So, to recap.

I am on 680 SC for the year (expires July 31) and my Qantas Club Membership expires on June 20.

I am looking for the cheapest possible way to hit gold, which for me is to take a Jetstar flight (with "plus/max bundle" to hobart)

There is an added clause (my sister is having her first child and is due mid June) and I will be damned If I am not at the hospital here in MEL within a few hours of the birth. My plan would be to fly to hobart, check out MONA and fly back same day.

Question 1. If I pay for a Jetstar flight with Afterpay do I still receive status credits? (Assuming I choose

Question 2. If I don't achieve gold by the time my Qantas Club membership expires (June 20th) Do I have to pay the joining fee for Qantas Club IF and WHEN my QFF status drops below Gold? (IE QFF Gold gets you into Qantas Club, but if you drop to silver do you have to pay again for signup fee?)

Question 3. Do I need to purchase a Max bundle with Jetstar or will a plus bundle MEL-HOBART--> HOBART-MEL suffice for me to receive 20 Status Credits? and Hence qualify for Gold.

Question 4. If I choose a MAX bundle on the return (if sister goes into labour) and need to change my flight do I still receive Status Credits?

Question 5. If you fly Qantas MEL-HOBART --> HOBART-MEL on the least flexible economy fare it is 10 Status Credits each way, is it also 10 SC's each way with JQ PLUS/MAX ? + paying with afterpay?

Thank you all!

I can’t answer all but will answer some....

When you get Gold your Qantas Club goes into pause or hibernation. If it expires prior to hitting Gold then you would be at the mercy of some undocumented QF policy to entice you to rejoin without joining fee. However if you are only Gold for 13 months I suspect the rejoining fee may be required in 13 months time - too many ifs and buts to be reliable.

Note that SCs with Jetstar sometimes take weeks to flow through. This may thwart your plans.

I suggest you look at what you are trying to achieve. Does QF Gold offer you much more personally on future travel plans that QF Club will not? If it does go for it. If it does not you should just stump up for 12 months membership and buy the best value fare for when your sister drops her bundle.

Of course you still get points with afterpay, why wouldn’t you?

Max bundles with jetstar don’t earn points or status credits - only plus bundles do. So don’t purchase a max bundle.

I have no idea how many status credits you earn Melbourne to Hobart with qantas or jetstar, but I’d imagine it’d be the minimum given the short distance of the flight, which is normally 10 status credits. This can easily be looked up yourself using the points calculator on the qantas website though. Plus bundle points are earned at the discount economy earn rate so the two would be the same. Bear in mind the delay that often occurs between flying jetstar and receiving your points and status credits also.

Afterpay, cash, credit, debit, barter, indenture - doesn’t make any difference. Credits come from flying, not payment method.

Make sure you don't go on a Tuesday....MONA doesn't open on Tuesday.

If you are retaining, you can convert points to credits if you are <100SC. But I don't think that would apply for attain. You can call Qantas to find out.

That might be the best way if you are sitting on a bundle of points

A Max bundle will earn 20 SCs each way to Hobart. A Plus bundle will only earn 10 SCs each way.

A Qantas economy ticket will earn 10 SCs unless you buy a flexible economy ticket which is 20 SC each way.

It used to take 8 weeks for Jetstar SCs to credit but they've fixed that now. It should now only take a few days.

I would book the Jetstar flight for the earliest day that you can fit it into your schedule (at the price that is right for you). Hopefully you can make the trip before the end of the month of in the first week of June, well before you need to meet your niece/nephew

A plus bundle each way will get you the 20 SC's that you need to qualify for gold, about 2-3 days after the flight you will see them on you QFF account. A max bundle would see you hit that it one flight & give you the flexibility to change the date. Whether it's worth the extra cost is up to you. Note that you will need to add the bundle at the time of booking. As posted by another member. plus bundle = QF economy earn rate, max bundle = flex economy earn

Incorrect. Max bundles do earn points and SC, usually double that of a Plus bundle.

You may be thinking of the FlexiBiz bundle.

You could always fly to ADL and back in the one day, that way you can get your 20SC and enjoy some of the country's best wines.

Just to clarify first point, if a QC member and then attain Gold your membership is paused as in say you have 4 months left on current membership when u hit Gold and then after a year lose Gold you still have 4 months membership left before you have to pay another year and your membership anniversary will change ?

Hope your right that Jetstar has improved points posting - it was ridiculous that Cathay points and SCs arrived in 3 or 4 days while Jetstar took weeks.
