Hi all,

I am flying out of Heathrow T5 on a domestic flight. Am I able to visit other Oneworld lounges in T3 (Qantas, Cathay)? Any advice is much appreciated.

Are you traveling in Business class or do you have appropriate oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status? If so, then other oneworld lounges are available and you do not need to use the BA lounges.

For Emerald, in my opinion, Cathay is the better lounge.

For Sapphire / Business, then Cathay or Qantas lounges are both excellent options.

If you’re flying out of T5 then you cannot use the T3 lounges at LHR. The terminals are not connected airside. You can only use the BA lounges I’m afraid.

Not applicable when flying out of T5. You can't access the other oneworld lounges in T3. So the BA lounges in T5 it will be. There are two Galleries Club lounges in the main terminal building (North and South) and a smaller lounge in T5B. Domestic flights almost always use the main terminal (T5A).

i dont think the north lounge exists anymore? i dont normally go up that end of the terminal besides the south is bigger and easier to find seat depending on time of flight and how busy place is at the time - also if status the first class lounge is there too

If you’re flying T5 you will only have access to the lounges in T5 - which are BA only. You can’t move between terminals. As you are business the default would be any of the Galleries lounges. If however you hold One World Emerald status you may also use the Galleries First lounge, which is at the south concourse after security.

If you're OW Emerald (ie QF Platinum or Plat1) then the Cathay First Lounge is the place to go. They serve a proper a la carte menu in a separate seated area.

Except as others have pointed out the other lounges are NOT in T5 which is where the OP clearly said they were flying out of. So whilst it may be in the OneWorld 'rules' to be able to use those lounges, the fact you cannot physically get to them makes it more than a tad hard to use them. So only option in T5 is the two BA lounges. (3 if you count the first, but only applicable if the OP is OWE).

I was at the LHR a week ago, flying out on an international flight. I was able to move freely between T3 and T5. There is security before you get back into each terminal but fast track is available for PAX with status, thus it was quick. The bus ride between T3 and 5 is about 20 min with some queuing. I was questioned by the security lady as why i was going to T3. Answer: for lounge access and she was cool with that.

I can't remember if i had to clear immigration at LHR.

There is another logistic question as the OP is traveling on a domestic onward flight. CX and QF lounges are only for international flights out of LHR.

I wouldn’t say the BA lounges are bad enough to warrant a 40 minute return bus trip between terminals 5 and 3, plus clearing security twice unless the OP has a lot of time to kill. Not even sure if the OP has oneworld sapphire or emerald status? They just say they are flying business?

The BA lounges (especially south) in Terminal 5 are fine. I'm surprised anyone would consider transiting between T5 and T3 terminals just to visit a different lounge. Is it really worth all the hassle of security/bus/time for a bowl of noodles or a glass of gin? Fast Track at T3 is not always that fast either.

The best spot at LHR T5 in the 'first' lounge if Platinum is to go to the 'outside' area where there are generally plenty of seats to lounge across. As you enter the lounge turn left and walk towards the large glassed area. On the way pick up a glass of 'fizz' and go through the doors which lead out to a more relaxed area and good views outside. I also find this a great place to drop my bags without the need for too much concern.
