Luxe new South American lounges for LAN & TAM

Qantas partner and oneworld member LAN Airlines and its Brazilian sibling TAM Airlines will open four more VIP lounges next year, following this month's debut of LAN's newest lounge at El Dorado International Airport in the Colombian capital of Bogota.

Also on the slate for 2014 are new VIP lounges at LAN's home ground of Santiago and TAM's Sao Paulo hub, a spokesman for LAN advised Australian Business Traveller, along with "a redesigned Miami VIP lounge".

And with TAM joining oneworld on March 31, 2014 the new lounges will be a welcome addition to the oneworld network.

The Bogota VIP Lounge is located at Gate 34 in the International Passenger Terminal at Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport.

Designed by Chilean architect Mathias Klotz and Paris-based Studio Putman, the elegant lounge boasts clean lines and a warm natural palette of colours and materials.

"LAN and TAM were inspired by the big global trends in interior design and architecture, incorporating distinct elements of each of the countries where they operate" says Chilean flag carrier LAN.

Each lounge will include "relaxation areas", a separate children's area and "chaise lounges for sleeping". Not to mention some pretty lush loos with their own shower.

The new LAN and TAM lounges will be open to passengers traveling in all 'premium cabins' on both airlines – a broad set that spans from first class and 'premium business' to business and premium economy.

The welcome mat will also be rolled out for top-tier Comodoro and Premium Silver members of the LANPASS frequent flyer program; Black, Vermelho Plus and Vermelho cardholders in TAM's Fidelidade rewards scheme; plus oneworld Emerald and Sapphire (which means Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum/Platinum One and Gold).

LAN is a great airline that will bring back the service orientated origins of TAM.  The "Red Carpet service" as the founder called it. The only problem is that they now control so much of the market that already expensive fares may increase further.
