Delta restarts Brisbane-Los Angeles flights
The US carrier brings back its seasonal A350 flights, this time with more business class suites up front.
Delta Air Lines resumes flying between Brisbane and Los Angeles this weekend, marking the return of the seasonal service which debuted in December 2024.
The trans-Pacific route gets a restart on 31 October 2025 for LAX-BNE, with the BNE-LAX return leg departing 2 November.
- DL92 departs Brisbane at 10:40am, reaching LAX at 6:05am
- DL93 is wheels-up from Los Angeles at 11:40pm, arriving into Brisbane at 8:20am two days later
There’ll be three flights per week through to 27 March 2026, with financial support from Queensland’s Attracting Aviation Investment Fund.
And this time around, Delta’s Airbus A350s will have more business class berths. with 40 Delta One Suites (up from 32) reflecting the ongoing popularity of premium travel, especially among holiday-makers.
However, it’s only business class which is getting that boost: the new Delta A350 configuration loses eight premium economy recliners (going from 48 down to 40), and 31 economy seats (from 190 down to 159).
On these 13½ hour flights, Delta One passengers will bed down with a duvet, sleeping pillow, mattress pad-lumbar pillow and a memory foam ‘cuddle pillow’, all supplied by Italian fashion house Missoni.
Delta’s BNE-LAX flights will be followed by the launch of Melbourne-Los Angeles in early December.
This will be a year-round service, with three flights per week.
Travellers headed beyond Los Angeles will enjoy a seamless transfer at Delta’s LAX Terminal 3 gateway, including Delta One and Sky Club lounges to break the onward journey to over 40 key cities across the US, including major hubs such as New York, Boston, Seattle, and of course Delta’s home town of Atlanta.
The business class experience at LAX includes the dedicated Delta One lounge and premium check-in area with private TSA screening.
Delta will become the first airline to fly the Airbus A350 non-stop between Melbourne and the United States, with the promise of a superior trip to the Boeing 787-9's of Qantas and United Airlines.

Delta flying to Melbourne ex-LAX? Is that an 'exclusive' to ET? Haven't seen that mentioned before today.

Good to see they're back and increasing the business class seats. I get the impression Brisbane demand is surprisingly business heavy

Am I correct that Delta is the sole a350 operator, non-stop, between Australia and USA? I'm interested in David's comment about a "superior" trip on a350 compared to 787-9. What aspects of the a350 generally, and the Delta a350 specifically, make that so? Fellow ET readers please pass on your experience good and bad. Should I be choosing Delta?

Yes, Delta is the sole A350 option non-stop. In premium cabins, I find it a bit of a muchness, but in economy, the wider fuselage of the A350 does make for slightly wider seats and aisles than the 787 which I find to be materially noticeable when I have to sit in the back.

Yes, Delta is the only airline flying the A350 between AU and the US.
I preference the A350 over anything whenever i have a choice. Similar to the B787 in terms of the lower cabin altitude and increased humidity which reduces jet-lag but I find the A350 is quieter inside and also being a bit wider and better designed inside it feels more relaxing to me.
But I wouldn't say that just 'A350 vs B787' should make you choose one airline over another, you need to consider how meals, drinks, service, seats, the whole experience, also lounges to some extent, and if you are flying beyond LAX then you also want to look at the transit experience.
