Singapore Airlines restarts Hong Kong in-town check-in

Singapore Airlines will join Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines and Qantas in permitting passengers to check in for flights from Hong Kong, and drop off any checked luggage, at the city’s Airport Express railway station.

The operator of Hong Kong’s MTR rail network confirms that “starting from February 24 (Monday), in-town check-in service will be provided at the Airport Express Hong Kong Station.”

Check-in will be available from 24 hours to 90 minutes before the flight’s scheduled departure time, with the facility open daily from 9am to 5.20pm.

However, for now, Singapore Airlines won’t offer the same service at Kowloon Station.

The ‘in-town check-in’ service used to be available for over a dozen airlines at the Hong Kong, Kowloon and Tsing Yi stations of the Airport Express, which zips between the city and the airport in less than 25 minutes.

And its convenience was unparalleled.

Visitors to the Asian metropolis enjoyed the convenience of dropping their luggage off at Hong Kong, Kowloon or Tsing Yi stations and then staying in the city for meetings, shopping or sightseeing for the rest of the day.

The Hong Kong Airport Express whisks travellers between the airport and the city in 24 minutes.

They could then make their way straight to the airport while their bags have already gone ahead to be loaded on their flight.

This is also handy for passengers on airlines which as Qantas, whose airport check-in counters open only three hours before flights to Australia depart – travellers with luggage who wanted to head to the airport (and enjoy its lounges) a little earlier could drop their bags at the Airport Express station, collect their boarding pass and then head straight through immigration at HKG.
