Qantas: new inflight amenity kits, meals & champagne choices

Today is not only the start of the Qantas-Emirates alliance – it’s also the debut of new amenity kits for first class travellers, along with a revised ‘Rockpool-inspired’ menu for business class.

The first class kits feature luxe SK-II products, which Qantas claims as a world first for any airline.

Available in male and female editions, both kits include SK-II Facial Treatment Essence.

The ladies' kit, which comes in a red clutch purse-style bag, also contains SK-II Stempower Cream and Facial Treatment Gentle Cleanser.

The bloke's bag packs SK-II Men Moisturiser Cleanser and Age Revitalise Moisturiser into a black twin-pocket kit.

And there’s another bit of pampering at the pointy end, with Qantas today offering a choice of champers in Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 2000 or Taittinger Comtes De Champagne Blanc De Blancs 2000.

When it’s time to bed down there’s also a new design for the first class pyjamas (which Qantas calls ‘sleeper suits’).

The new amenity kits, bubbly and PJs are all being offered from today on flights between Sydney and Melbourne and Dubai and London, and will later appear on other A380 routes to the US and Hong Kong.

Flying in business class? The inflight menu has been redesigned around a more ‘contemporary’ feel, Qantas says, “featuring Rockpool inspired small plates and main plates menu”.

This includes a series of tasting plates that we believe will find favour with many travellers who tend to enjoy a heartier meal at the Qantas lounge before their flight and then prefer to graze more lightly during the flight.

“The new meal service offers a flexible dining experience with a range of simple yet substantial dishes such as a big bowl of soup and a cheese plate or a couple of small plates in addition to the option of a three course meal.”

“The flexible dining options enables customers to maximise sleep with a range of dishes that can be ordered any time throughout the flight.”

Hopefully these amenity kits and the sleeper suits  will be introduced prior to July on the LAX route.

Why do airlines assume that people even want amenity kits?

Yes, it is a good drop, except in the BA First lounge at LHR, where it's served at almost room temp.  It's ghastly in those conditions.

It is pretty good stuff and in DXB they have dedicated stores selling it throughout the airport,  hhhhmmm, wonder if that had anything to do with the change from Payot. Mind you, I do enjoy the Payot, it is proper  stuff.

I take it CL9 that you are the kind of person wh does not give a sh*t on what they give you ;-)

I've never tried SK-II, so looking forward to sampling this. I figure Qantas had Payt in first to tie in with their Payot spas, and I agree with you KG, I love the Payot - the ladies at the first lounge's spa always give me a few samples after each visit, and the general products plus the men's range (moisturiser & after-shave balm) are fantastic.

@David: Wasn't AUSBT travelling on the inaugural flight to DXB courtesy of QF? Surely they put you guys in F, hence you have by now tried SK-II ?  :-))

LOL! We were in business class along with the rest of the media - so, no SK-II and no radiantly glowing youthful skin for us!

Well, I slept in the PJs last night and found them to be very comfortable!

I prefer them to the previous First Class offering. The material is noticeably thinner and lighter, and it ‘breathes’ better.

The new soft charcoal colour has more of a contemporary feel than the previous taupe tones.

Let’s see how well they wash – hopefully they don’t shrink! – but for now, they’re set to replace my current favourite of Cathay Pacific’s Shanghai Tang PJs for autumn/spring sleepwear.

Favourite PJ's? Definitely not the previous QF F ones as the biggest drawback of them is lack of a pocket in the trousers. I do love the ANA F ones (despit not having a pocket) but I'd say LH F or EK F are also very good.

I'm with you KG, Payot is an excellent range, with quite decent bloke's stuff.

SK-II is very popular in Asia, but I'm not sure it's a good swap. They had a bit of a contamination scare not that long ago if I remember correctly.
