Qantas serves up a slice of Texas on Dallas A380 flights

Travellers on Qantas' new Airbus A380 flights from Sydney to Dallas will have the option of 'themed' inflight meals through to October 5.
The special "Texas-inspired menu" kicks off in first class with a 28-day Nolan dry aged cowboy rib eye served with Neil Perry's gourmet mac & cheese, wedge salad and a choice of mustard.
In business there are chipotle pork tortillas with sour cream and roasted corn and tomato salsa. If you're perched in premium economy you can sample Texas hot dogs with chilli black beans and chipotle mayo. Pulled beef sliders are being served up in economy through to March 2015, along with Jolly Ranchers sweets and US 'pop' including Dr Pepper, Root Beer and Cream Soda. Qantas' A380 is also dressed up for the occasion, with the Flying Kangaroo sporting a Stetson hat and a 'neckerchief' with American-stars print, as seen on this sneaky spy shot. It’s touted as “the world’s largest passenger aircraft flying the world’s longest route” – a nod to both the size of the double-decker superjumbo and the 13,804km stretch from Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth airport. Wow cant wait to dine on fatty carb laden first class cuisine.
This is appalling meals for first, nothing classy at all.
I will wait for emirates to start flying dubai to dallas and enjoy the sublime service and cuisine.

Emirates already flies to Dallas...so you could spend 12 hours on EK to Dubai, then 16 hours to DFW. Not sure 28 hours on any plane would be considered "sublime" no matter what food is being served...!

Or, as hutch points out below, you can just eat the normal Bland Week-Aged Pie with Wilted Salad Greens and Unfamiliar Dressing.

I have just come back on one of the last 747 flights in business class and the food going over was just yum. Surprising the food coming back out of the US was of good quality also. Glad i got to go on one of the last 747 rides. I know they are quieter but that business class in an A380 is like being in an upmarket cattle class. Sooooooo many seats together. That is where the 747 upstairs make it feel like you are in a small private jet. Long live the 747. The true Jumbo.

iamwill I could not agree with you more! I really, really, really dislike the A380 Business Class cabin, while it is airy and quiet, it feels like being in a Boarding School dorm. I will be devastated when the last B747 exits service, nothing compares to seat 14A on the upper deck. Also the B747 is simply a more attractive looking aircraft, the "Queen Of The Skies" is a very fitting name for her, unlike the Airbus blimp which looks bloated and ungainly at best.

This is Disgusting.I had better first time to the States in 1989 on Continental where the meals resembled something decent for a US Carrier in Business Class.I think It was Ansett that catered the flights out of Australia from memory.

What's the big deal? These are options... you don't need to choose it. If you want the normal First or Business meal, then choose that.

Good call hutch! Or you could eat in the lounge before your flight and sleep all the way through the onboard meal service without the hassle of having to make such difficult choices!

Nice! Those sliders are certainly a lot better than that pizza in a box they serve you on the LAX service!
It's really good that Qantas is able to consolidate it's North American strategy and remain profitable despite the semi decent competition (DL, VA, UA, NZ).
What is it about North America that works for Qantas?

I had the sliders on my flight to LAX a couple of weeks ago. They were okay.
The USA -AUS free skies agreement (to my knowledge) is for Australian and USA carriers. This limits direct competition from stronger carriers like SQ etc. SQ has wanted rights for Australia to LAX for some time and has been denied.

Love the sound of the first class option! I really dont know whythere are so many people complaining about this...There is such a huge range of choice in First class when it comes to meals. Im sure the First menu will also include a fish dish, a chick, perhaps a lamb...not to mention the range of small plates, soups, salads, desserts.
I also think a big, juicy, tender rib eye served at 40,000 feet with a high class Australian red wine is more appealing than a Lobster dish (SIA) anyday. First class dinning is about choice, generous portions, top quality. Ticks all boxes.

I swear sometimes people publish the word Qantas on a website and it automatically generates 1000 whinging responses. As Hutch pointed out, these are OPTIONS - if you don't want it, don't ask for it!
I personally love pork sliders and think it's fanastic that Qantas is serving 'regoinal' food on its flights
