Emirates Australia to Dallas. One stop in Dubai. Takes a bit longer but more time in Emirates business seat!

Thanks for all the options. Never tried Air NZ, Etihad or Qatar. Qatar seem to have a better price than Emirates or Etihad.Only Air NZ downside is United connection in the USA. Currently American internal flights are not getting a good wrap. Been to Seoul on Korean business class, liked it. AA experience depends on aircraft. Had an old 777 London-Chicago, dreadful flight with poor service and food. I am looking at ff benefits as I am QF LTS and Virgin Silver.

If you're choosing between Air New Zealand, Etihad and Qatar, you live a good life. My pick would be Qatar over Air New Zealand (though both depend on what plane they operate to DFW). Never flown Etihad in business.

It cuts down options if you want to avoid the QF non stop and LAX.
1 stops to DFW from somewhere in AU are via:
JL/AA NRT
KE ICN
UA or QF/AA SFO
JQ/QF/HA > AA HNL
QR DOH
EK DXB
EY AUH
CX/AA HKG
AC YVR
QF/LA > AA SCL
Many more 2 stop options via NZ (AKL/IAH) and Europe.

LAX is much better than it was a few years back. The upgrades to TB have really worked, last trip in from Australia (May) I was in the car 30 minutes after arriving at the gate. With checked bag and on a paper visa, so I can't use the kiosks.
BTW, Australians living in the US can use Global Entry. You just need to register and go to an interview, like Americans do.

Are you sure about that, Aggie57?
From the current 'Eligibility' criteria from the CBP page, the following is displayed:
Are You Eligible?
U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents and citizens of the following countries are eligible for Global Entry membership:
Note: There may be additional requirements you must meet depending on your country of citizenship. To find out if additional requirements must be met, select an International Arrangement and your country of citizenship.
Canadian citizens and residents are eligible for Global Entry benefits through membership in the NEXUS program." Refer https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry/eligibility
If you click on the link for International Arrangement and select 'Australian' nationality, it quite clearly gives the response "Australian Citizens are not eligible for Global Entry."
The reason I ask for clarification on your comment is that - on numerous occassions - I have directly enquired with CBP personnel in numerous 'gateway' airports in the USA and have always been advised in accordance with the above.

I've done the JAL/AA route, it did require a night in Tokyo but was happy with that as I wasn't in a rush.

Australians can only currently get Global Entry if they are US lawful permanent residents. ie, they have a green card.
Australians can not get it based simply on having an Australian passport, unlike passport holders from India, Singapore, UK, Colombia, Germany, Panama, South Korea and Switzerland.
