Qantas Club membership is a popular option for travellers who don't fly quite enough to enjoy lounge access and other perks by earning Gold membership in the Qantas Frequent Flyer scheme.

If that's a decent description of your travel habits and you're considering joining the Qantas Club, here's another reason which may nudge you off the fence – a free serve of 40,000 Qantas Points as a sign-up bonus.

The deal's on offer only through to 19 February 2015 – that's this Thursday – for one year, two year and four year memberships.

Those cost $510, $925 and $1,755 respectively, each with a highly-questionable $385 'joining fee' (because printing and posting a plastic membership card costs a lot of money, right?).

On top of those 40,000 gratis points you can scoop up another 10,000 points if you refer a friend to join the Qantas Club during this promo.

That's almost enough for an indulgent first class flight in Emirates' Airbus A380 private suites from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane to Auckland, or a more sensible upgrade from business class to first class on Qantas' Airbus A380 from Sydney or Melbourne to London.

Perks of Qantas Club membership include access to domestic Qantas Club airport lounges and Qantas' international business lounges (including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hong Kong, Singapore and Los Angeles), premium check-in, a higher checked luggage allowance and 'on departure upgrade requests' at the lounge.
