Qantas offers frequent flyer points rebate on international flights

Heads up: Qantas is offering a 'points rebate' on international flights booked as Classic Awards, with up to 24,000 Qantas Points landing back into your account.
The promotion, which is open to all Qantas Frequent Flyers, covers Qantas-operated international flights.
Codeshares such as Emirates flights are not included, however: you'll need to be sure the flight number is between QF1 and QF199.
Your Classic Award flight has to be booked by February 28 and flown by March 31 and to be eligible for the points rebate you have to register before you make the booking: click through to this page on the Qantas.com.au website to sign up.
The number of points in the rebate will vary according to the distance flown: for example, an economy Classic Award from Sydney to Los Angeles return will net you 16,000 Qantas Points.
Considering that the award flight would cost you 96,000 points (plus $838.42 in fees and surcharges), that's not a bad get-back.
Here's a set of examples from Qantas:
If you redeem your points on a free flight for family members they'll each get the points rebate, as long as their frequent flyer number is included in the booking.

Would anyone actually part with a whopping 96,000 points + $840 in taxes for a return economy ticket SYD-LAX? I find that astounding. For comparison, Air New Zealand are currently offering the same ticket for $1100 cash return. You get to keep all your points and earn more. Qantas' surcharges have surely gotten beyond a joke.

I have figured it out ages ago - it is simply wasting of your hard earned points if you spend them on anything exept of business tickets. Ah, you may do so on first one as well :-)

Agree - I saw that and was astounded by the tax and surcharges! really does not make Y classic awards redemption any attractive!
I've always been a fan of Velocity with SYD-LAX Y Rewards flight redemption with tax and surcharge about $200 which is more attractive compared to QF.
Shame I am about to book SYD to YUL via DFW with QF Y redemption one way but not entitled for the points rebate as I don't fly until Sept 2014.

Agree that the taxes and surcharges (basically an arbitrary airline charge) make the benefit of redeeming an award in international Y less attractive.
I also think these charges, and thus attractiveness, directly contribute to the attractiveness and thus value of QFF and serve as a warning to anyone thinking about investing/buying it if QF chooses to sell it.
Personally, getting Status Credits on these award flights is more attractive than a points rebate.

I tried to find Business seats to a number of destinations to be shown flight with an "i" (for information), beside them. Turns out it is only the domestic part in Business not the longhaul part. I am saddend to say that I hardly ever consider QF any longer. I am a lifetime Gold but for anyone travelling Business or First, that means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
