Qatar Airways will swap out its Airbus A380 from the Perth-Doha route for a Boeing 777-300ER between September and December 2019 as the superjumbo heads into the hangar for routine maintenance.
That's not the best news if you're booked into the superjumbo's first class cabin, as the Boeing 777 lacks first class.
A spokesperson for Qatar Airways tells Australian Business Traveller that "only a minor amount of passengers were booked on the Airbus A380 in first class for this period and these affected passengers will be placed into business class and reimbursed the price difference."
The Boeing 777 also lacks the A380's superb spacious bar and lounge, which we've long considered as the best in the sky and a great place to while away those 11 hours above the clouds.
But there's a wonderful plus for business travellers: the Boeing 777-300ER which will fill in for the A380 sports the airline's latest Qsuites in business class.
We currently rate this as the world's best business class, and we can think of no better way to soar between Perth and Doha – indeed, it's closer to a first class experience, from the option to join your partner in a double bed to Qatar's extensive menu and dine on demand meal service, plus high-speed WiFi to stay in touch with the world below.
According to the Qatar Airways' website, the Boeing 777-300ER takes over as of the Doha-Perth QR900 flight on September 12 and the Perth-Doha QR901 return leg of the same day; the Airbus A380 slips back into the schedule from December 12.
