New Qantas menu serves up Aussie classics, ‘bush tucker’
Pies, toasties, scones and ‘bush tucker’ will take pride of place on domestic flights.
Qantas’ new inflight menu puts that famous ‘Spirit of Australia’ on a plate – but no, we don’t mean kangaroo burgers at 40,000 feet.
Now being rolled out in business and economy class on domestic Qantas flights, the selection leans into home-grown classics.
Passengers can tuck into a hearty pie from Simmone Logue, snack on a toastie, and, during morning flights in business class, indulge in scones served with Beerenberg jam and Pepe Saya clotted cream.
There’s even a DreamTime Tuka box containing “authentic Indigenous bush tucker”.
“This new menu has been thoughtfully curated to highlight the finest Australian flavours while championing local businesses across the country,” says Qantas Group Chief Customer and Digital Officer, Catriona Larritt.
Highlights of the new Qantas domestic business menu:
- Lamb & Rosemary Pie with Crisp Potatoes & Peas
- Red Wine Angus Beef with Mash & Green Beans
- Garlic Prawns with Parmesan Cream & Fettuccine
- Smoked Salmon with Zucchini Pickles & Lemon Dressing
- Brie & Onion Tart with Beetroot Relish & Rocket
- Coconut, Blueberry & Lemon Bread with Lemon Curd
Highlights of the new Qantas domestic economy menu:
- Beef Ragu & Mushroom Pie
- Pumpkin, Spinach & Parmesan Quiche
- Egg & Chorizo Toastie with smoky tomato chutney
- Beef Sausage Burrito Wrap
- Chocolate Caramel Slice
- Jam Drop Cookie
- Macadamia Butterscotch Cake
The business and economy menus are structured around a six-week rotation, so that frequent flyers – especially those regularly travelling on the same route – don’t have to see the same dishes over and over.

So, everything in economy is no larger than a substantial snack. Does that mean no changes to the full meals, or no more meals, on transcontinentals to WA and Darwin?

Can someone, anyone, tell me how fettucine, pies, quiche, burritos and chorizo are 'bush tucker' ?

Oh yay, after the only hot foot in the lounge being a toastie, you now get a toastie on the plane.
On the upside, I'm glad they've dropped their obsession with mushrooms on every option.

Well, I guess mushrooms have had a lot of bad press lately!

Qantas need to sort their domestic lounge food out first! Frittata with beans or tinned spaghetti! Shocking!

Tonight I enjoyed the beef ragu, mushroom and thyme pie. While it wasn’t exceptional, it was a welcome treat after the limited options at the QC lounge in Brisbane.

Noting there you cannot get on VA or maybe even JQ for $10-14 a flight.

Have I just been lucky, or have any other VA Plats travelling behind Row 2 noticed that when purchasing a number of items the amount actually charged to the credit card is materially less than expected (from the menu price list), and that the card and receipt are handed back with a 'knowing smile'. It's been as though part of the purchase was given complimentary (something gets charged, but it's not the RRP - nowhere near it). But only when ordering a number of items, not on a single item purchase.

Qantas really need to move on with the whole Neil Perry menu & food offerings. Surely Australia has produced other successful chefs in the last 20 years that can design food offerings that don’t have Thai flavours or Asian fusion! I’d be happy with some nice fresh sandwiches or an old fashioned meat pie or sausage roll on domestic flights. Most passengers don’t need fancy and lots of complex choice. They want simple, fresh, tasty and well presented. Stew in a paper box doesn’t cut it either. Disgusting.

I don't disagree that Qantas needs to end the NP relationship and bring in fresh ideas and a fresh approach, but that said, NP has nothing to do with the meals mentioned above.

Very carb heavy. Nothing really fresh and healthy. I guess that's because carbs are cheapest form of any offering.
