Singapore Airlines promises revamp for flagship Changi T3 lounges

Singapore Airlines is readying plans for a massive makeover of its decade-old SilverKris lounges at Singapore’s Changi Airport Terminal 3 – but the all-new lounges are unlike to open their doors before 2020.

Everything from the sprawling business class lounge to the first class lounge and The Private Room will be recast along the same lines as the new 'home away from home' residential design which debuted in Sydney in 2013 and has since been rolled out to Brisbane, London, Hong Kong and Bangkok.

“We are expecting to look at what we what to do with our lounges in T3 starting this year,” says Singapore Airlines CEO Mr Goh Choon Phong, "but the lounge is a huge project in T3 so it would probably take a few years.”

One challenge of the revamp would be the unique 'nested' layout of the SilverKris lounge complex which sees each of the T3 lounges wrapping around one another, compared to more traditional layout where each lounge has its own footprint and entry.

When the work is done, however, expect Singapore Airlines' Changi T3 business class lounge to look a little like this...

... and include these private working areas.

... while the Changi T3 first class lounge would be closer to the airline's modern first class lounges with more space and refinement...

... and an upgraded dining area.

Speaking to Australian Business Traveller at Boeing's South Carolina facility, ahead of the delivery flight of the airline's first Boeing 787-10, Goh suggested the lag in upgrading its flagship lounges “was in some sense deliberate.”

“We had this new concept for the lounge and we think it’s good, but we wanted to experiment and learn from lounges overseas so that all of this learning could then be incorporated when we re-do our flagship lounges.”

SQ needs to devote more time to its Airport services! A few years! You've had since 2013 :-)

Totally agree. Their lounge offering in SIN is totally beige compared to what CX achieve in HKG with their lounges. And please can we have a toilet in each shower suites in the lounges?

If you arrive after 10pm in T3 you are lucky to get a seat and the J lounge is an overcrowded noisy mess. Hardly a premium showing.

SIN SQ biz lounges are well past their use by date and are a bit of a zoo (less said about the Krisflyer lounge the betterl Showers are tired, power points are not always easy to find and the catering is best described as adequate. CX outdoes them at HKG, but both QF and BA outdo SQ as well at SIN.

Long overdue. The lounges are okay, but not really what you'd expect from the home port of a premium carrier. The business lounge is like a zoo at times and the private room, while a cool novelty in some ways, is kinda underwhelming at the end of the day.

I can live with the lounges as they are, but the coffee is dreadful!

This is welcome news, but IMHO SIN T3 really needs at least 2 SQ J lounges, possibly more; the sheer size of this terminal means that it can easily take 15 mins or more to get from the existing lounge to the gate a bit too long!

I agree.
The size of the terminal combined with the volume of guests would make it sensible to have a lounge at each end of the shopping concourse.

The quality of the SilverKris lounge both in Changi and Melbourne and the Gold lounge in Changi (when I have to fly economy) has been disappointing for many years. It is one of the main reasons I have swapped to Qantas for my many Singapore trips each year. Whether in the QF lounge or the Emirates lounge (QF code, EK metal) both are far superior than SQ. Maybe I will look at Singapore Airlines again in 2020.

As an interim move, they should give the showers in the Business lounge a good clean. They're vile.
