Reader contest: Fly to Tokyo with Qantas

Congratulations to the following AusBT readers, who will be jetting to Japan this Saturday on the inaugural Qantas flight from Brisbane to Tokyo: Michelle Aizenberg, Nat Bradford, Hannah Fraser, Daniel Kluge, Kirsty Taylor and Fiona Solomon.

PREVIOUS | Be part of the launch of Qantas’ newest international routes to Tokyo, with one business class return ticket and five economy return tickets up for grabs – that’s six chances to win, and a prize pool worth over $13,000.

Your Tokyo adventure will begin on the inaugural QF61 service from Brisbane to Tokyo’s Narita Airport, departing Brisbane at 11am on Saturday August 1st – with some special ‘first flight festivities' before take-off!

The flight will run on Qantas’ latest Airbus A330 with all-new Business Suites in business class (above) and comfortable Recaro seats in economy.

Once you reach Narita Airport at 7.15pm, your time is all your own: stay in Tokyo as long as you like and wherever you choose, from a five-star hotel to an authentic ryokan (transfers, accommodation and associated costs are at the winner’s expense).

After landing in Tokyo, explore Japan at your leisure

Your return flight to Australia will be on Qantas’ Boeing 747 from Tokyo’s conveniently-located Haneda Airport to Sydney, at a date of your choosing.

Note that as a condition of entry, winners must

  • be able to travel on August 1st on the inaugural QF Brisbane-Tokyo flight
  • pay for their own transfers, accommodation, meals and other ground expenses in Japan
  • arrange any necessary connecting flights within Australia, such as flying to Brisbane for the QF61 inaugural, or flying from Sydney after their return on the QF26 service from Tokyo

If you're good with those conditions, then entering this contest is a doddle: just share in up to 25 words why you’d like to fly to Tokyo with Qantas.

This contest is open to residents of Australia aged 16 years and over; entries close at 11.59pm EST on Sunday 26 July 2015, and the winner will be announced on Australian Business Traveller on Monday 27 July 2015 (click here to read the full terms and conditions).

Well as this is a flight to Tokyo, I hope your poetry was in haiku form? Seriously though, as long as you're good to fly BNE-NRT on Sat August 1st that's a start!

I wonder the reason behind leaving from Brisbane and returning to Sydney. It means that every winner will need to buy a one way ticket. Even if they live in Brisbane

I was wondering that too, only thing i could think of was maybe the load factors from Tokyo - Brisbane are quite large and they couldnt guarantee getting a seat either way refurb 330 on the way up and 747 on the way back, what more would you want

Grannular: Qantas is keen to expose both the BNE-NRT and SYD-HND routes (well, okay, so the second is more HND-SYD) including Haneda as a 'new' airport for its flights and a more conveniently-located one for downtown Tokyo compared to Narita. I'm on the media contingent for this (will be on the BNE-NRT inaugural) and we're doing the same deal - we fly Brisbane-Tokyo on Saturday, and on Sunday evening we head to Haneda for the overnight to Sydney.

I think it's a stroke of marketing genius by Qantas.

The competition is targeted to business travellers. It's close to departure so they probably have a rough indication of loads for the first leg. It gets social transmission around their new route (BNE-NRT,) their rerouted HND-SYD and their new business product.

The parameters of the competition mightn't fly for a widespread, long range competition - non transferrable, must depart from said city at short notice - and could lead to some backlash. But given the T&C's are very clear, I think it's a great way to get business travellers talking about a business route.

Having never flown upstairs on a 747, I'd take the teck overnight for that, if nothing else!

Steve is correct – as per the T&Cs linked above, "The winners will not accrue Qantas Frequent Flyer points or Status Credits on prize travel."

If it didn't require flying on the first BNE-NRT flight and allowed for whatever dates, I'd be all over this. (Looking at TYO trip in mid Sep)
