Qantas' new Perth international business class lounge to open March 24

Qantas will open its all-new international business class lounge at Perth Airport on March 24, ahead of the same-day departure of the first non-stop Boeing 787 flight to London at 6.50pm.

Airline CEO Mr Alan Joyce will do some ribbon-cutting, speech-making and glass-raising before setting out on QF9 for the 17 hour trek to Heathrow.

Weather permitting, guests will be treated to a Neil Perry-designed Aussie barbecue menu on the lounge's outdoor terrace.

"Without leaving the airport we can get a little bit of nature back into our customers," explains designer David Caon, who worked on the Dreamliner's seats and cabins, along with the airline's Singapore and Hong Kong lounges.

The lounge will also boast over a dozen shower suites – we suspect they'll be especially welcome after the 17½ flight from London – with optional blue LED lighting set to a wavelength which gently revitalises the body.

Located in a new 'international wing' of Terminal 3, the facility's official moniker will be the Qantas Perth International Transit Lounge – a name which underscores its primary role as a waypoint for passengers who'll largely be drawn from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and for overseas travellers inbound from London.

Qantas will retain its recently-refreshed lounge at Terminal 1 for eligible travellers on Jetstar flights along with partner airlines including Oneworld members Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways.

The new Perth lounge will open its doors to business class travellers and eligible frequent flyers – including Qantas Platinum One, Platinum and Gold card-holders (and their Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire equivalents) along with Qantas Club members.

Interesting. I wondered whether it would be ready in time for the first flight.

Here’s a challenge for you Alan Joyce - do it in your revolutionary Premium Economy, and not the front row!

Maybe he should try it in 9 abreast Y class though I guess at this stage in his career he has forgotten that it is possible to turn right on boarding.

I’d love to see him flY Y - no transit lounge will ease that pain

I think this new lounge looks utterly professional. The outdoor terrace is a nice touch which is missing, no doubt due to the configuration of most airports, from any other Australian lounge I can think of.

Quite fitting for those about to embark on the nonstop service to LHR. Well done Mr Joyce and the rest of the team over at QF.

Missing from other airports due perhaps to Perth's sunny climate.

Wont be holding my breath. The new London and Brisbane International lounge are disappointing.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new PER lounge. Unfortunately, these architectural sketches are often optimistic and I'm willing to guess the outside space may not appear so spacious once it is seen in the flesh.

Will it be available for all inbound passengers, or possibly only those continuing to MEL where it will operate to the international terminal?

If you're on an ordinary domestic flight presumably you'd have to go to the Domestic Lounges.

QF10 PER-MEL would be an "international" flight.

Will the outdoor terrace be crowded with smokers? It would be, in Europe.

Travelling on QF10 in October, then transferring to QF594 for BNE. I suspect pax such as myself would be expected to use the Domestic lounge. What is the shower availability like a PER QF club?
